Newcastle signing this £60,000-a-week Tottenham star would serve them well

Why Danny Rose would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle United

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United could look to offer Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose an escape route and bring him to St. James’ Park this month.

Danny Rose, 29, has only started one Premier League game under Jose Mourinho and was not in the matchday squad to face Watford at the weekend.

Mourinho, on Tuesday, lifted the lid on his clash with Danny Rose, revealing that the issue stemmed from the defender complaining about a back injury, only to report for training later.

The Spurs boss decided to play Japhet Tanganga at left-back with Ryan Sessegnon on the bench in the goalless draw with Watford. Mourinho has shifted Jan Vertonghen from centre-back to left-back and has Ben Davies returning from injury soon.

He wants to trim his squad, thus Rose will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in, the report adds.

Newcastle United have had injuries to several key players this season. Their latest casualty is Jetro Willems, who is ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL in their win over Chelsea this past weekend. Also, fellow left-back Paul Dummett has suffered a tendon injury and faces surgery, leaving Bruce to fully rely on Matt Ritchie.

Relying solely on Ritchie at left wing-back would not be a wise choice, thus, signing a left-back to cover for Willems and Dummett would be sensible.

Bruce was interested in signing Rose this past summer, and Spurs were also keen to sell him. But the Magpies boss decided to bring in Willems on loan from Frankfurt instead of making an offer for the Tottenham defender.

Without any second thoughts, Newcastle must go for Rose. The £60,000-a-week star has had a few injury problems over the last few seasons and his form has wavered as well.

But he remains a reliable player who has made 214 appearances for Tottenham and has 29 caps for England. The English defender is highly experienced and would help Bruce fill a big void in his starting XI.

Verdict

A move to Newcastle makes perfect sense for Rose. Playing regularly in the run-up to Euro 2020 may be ideal for the Englishman as he fights for a spot in the England squad. So Bruce and the Magpies must do everything possible to thrash out a deal with Tottenham.
