Everton would bag a massive coup by signing this 27-year-old Serie A midfielder they targeted in 2016 – Agreed?

Why Daniele Baselli would be a fantastic signing for Everton

Back in November 2016, the Calciomercato had claimed that Everton scouted Torino midfielder Daniele Baselli. However, the Toffees didn’t make a concrete bid to secure his services in the 2017 January transfer window.

Daniele Baselli, 27, who grew up in the youth academy of Atalanta, has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A. He starred for Torino last season with four goals and an assist in 34 league games.

With the Italian midfielder consistently delivering the goods for Torino, Everton would be wise to rekindle their interest in him when the transfer market opens in January.

Marco Silva has found his second season as Everton boss more difficult than the first. The Toffees have now lost four of their last five Premier League fixtures and sit just two points above the relegation zone, in 15th place.

The Merseysiders have been hamstrung with injuries to some of their key players. Andre Gomes has been sidelined with a rib injury since early September and is yet to train with the first-team.

He could be out of action until mid-October. Summer signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin has been sidelined with a quadriceps injury since sustaining after the first two games of the season. Luckily, he has avoided the need for surgery on his damaged quadriceps but the midfielder’s return date remains uncertain.

Due to injury absences of Gomes and Gbamin, Silva has turned to Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin at the heart of the midfield, but Everton’s recent results have been a problem.

Delph and Schneiderlin have struggled in the middle of the park, failing to dictate play as well as nullify the opposition’s threat. Tom Davies has struggled to get into the starting XI this season, with Silva not fancying the academy graduate in league games.

Everton’s struggles in the middle of the park have accentuated the need for a new central midfielder and Daniele Baselli would be a good fit at Goodison Park.

Baselli is already one of the most experienced individuals at his current club, so he is, therefore, likely ready to take the next step in his career. The Italian’s aggression, passing range and energy coupled with his work-rate, could help Everton become much more vigilant in midfield.

His probing in the final third is vital, which helps create scoring chances for his teammates. In addition, the former Atalanta man moves the ball quickly to ensure he is rarely caught in possession.

Calm and composed on the ball, Baselli has a good technique and a passing range which helps him initiate attacks from the base of the midfield. His movement is quite dangerous as he has the tendency to arrive late in the box and score goals.

Truly, the Italian could become an asset for Everton in the coming years, especially if he can combine well with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Andre Gomes and Bernard.

Verdict

Hence, Everton shouldn’t hesitate to splash the cash and sign Baselli from Torino in January.
