Crystal Palace would be wise to take a punt on this 22-year-old cousin of Liverpool star

Why Crystal Palace signing Muhammadu Faal would be good

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are monitoring non-league striker Muhammadu Faal, who currently plies his trade with Enfield Town.

Cousin of Liverpool star Joe Gomez, Faal has also attracted interest from other Premier League teams like Norwich City, Watford, Bournemouth and Sheffield United after a series of impressive displays in the seventh-tier, according to reports.

Faal, 22, began his career with Serie C side L’Aquila Calcio and after a series of free transfers, the striker joined Enfield Town in 2018. And this season, he has chipped in with 18 goals and 9 assists in 19 games.

And The Sun suggests that if he continues to perform well and fire in the goals, it would not be long before he joins the top flight. This would be a Jamie Vardy-esque rise through the ranks for the young forward.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have leapt to the 5th spot in the league standings after back-to-back wins against Burnley and Bournemouth.

Roy Hodgson’s men are currently going through a mixed season. Though at the moment the Eagles have broken into the top-six, they have been inconsistent throughout the campaign.

With just 14 goals scored, the Eagles are in dire need of attacking reinforcements in January.

Jordan Ayew is their top scorer with 4 goals in the league, while the rest of the goals have come from other positions. Backup forwards Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham haven’t scored yet.

Faal is in excellent form at the moment and he would be a good acquisition for the team. If the Eagles decide to add to their squad, the 22-year-old must be a top priority.

Although he might not break into the first-team right from the start, he would be a useful option as the Premier League enters the toughest phase.

Jordan Ayew has not had the best of backups, thus forcing him to play for the most part of the season without rest.

As the term progress, it will become tougher for Hodgson to maintain the starting line-up without rotation. To that end, Faal’s worth could be tested by including him in the rotation policy.

In the meantime, the London-born striker must continue developing himself for the future and follow the steps of Vardy, who played for seventh-tier Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C in 2007and is now one of the top strikers in the Premier League.

Roy Hodgson should not be reluctant to sign a non-league player. With proper guidance, he could become a better player for the Eagles.

Verdict

Therefore, it would be a good gamble if Crystal Palace manages to sign the young forward either in January or at the end of the season.
