Why Crystal Palace re-signing this English midfield beast could be the coup of the summer

Why Crystal Palace must sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan again

According to a report by the Evening Standard, Crystal Palace are looking at the possibility of signing Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a loan deal once again. The promising Englishman spent the previous campaign on loan at Selhurst Park and played a key role for the Eagles.

His performances were impressive enough to earn him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the ongoing World Cup in Russia. And now, Palace boss Roy Hodgson is reportedly keen to bring him back to Selhurst Park for another season.

Despite being one of the most talented players in the Premier League, the 23-year-old has struggled for game time at Chelsea.

As far as the midfield situation at Chelsea is concerned, they have the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko, N’golo Kante, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley. It might seem like a plethora of options but upon closer inspection, it is clear that the club could utilize a player such as Loftus-Cheek.

Fabregas is clearly showing signs of ageing as Kante single-handedly took care of Chelsea’s midfield last season. Bakayoko was highly inconsistent in the 2017/18 campaign, whereas Drinkwater and Barkley failed to nail down a regular spot in the starting line-up.

In such a situation, it makes sense for the Blues to offer first-team opportunities to Loftus-Cheek. In fact, the youngster recently stated that he would stay back at Chelsea only if he is assured of a regular spot in the first-team.

Nevertheless, fresh reports claim that while he will remain a Chelsea player, he could go out on loan once again in the summer. Hence, Palace should look to lure Loftus-Cheek to Selhurst Park again.

After all, the midfielder enjoyed a stellar campaign for the Eagles last term and played a key role in the club finishing 11th in the Premier League. He also successfully established himself as a fan-favourite at Palace, which could prompt him to join the club once again on a loan deal this summer.

Hence, this move could prove to be beneficial for all parties involved. Given Loftus-Cheek’s skills, it is indeed baffling as to why Chelsea are yet to play him more often.

Nevertheless, for now, the youngster must prioritize his career over everything else and join Palace, where he is certain to play regularly.
