Why Crystal Palace could bag themselves a bargain by completing this £10m deal for Englishman

According to a report by The Sun, Crystal Palace are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore this summer. The Baggies endured a terrible season in the Premier League last term as they failed to survive in the top-flight.

The drop to the Championship will be a tough phase for West Brom and it is safe to say that the club must prepare for an exodus of sorts. It is not uncommon to see certain players leave in these situations and it seems like West Brom will have to do without the services of Livermore.

Palace managed to secure an 11th-place finish in the Premier League last term and were able to do so largely due to Roy Hodgson’s guidance after a torrid start to the season under Frank de Boer. And it seems like he will continue as their manager beyond this summer.

If the report from The Sun is to be believed, Livermore has been identified as a prime target by Palace and that the Eagles are keen to land his services for a fee of £10million.

Jake Livermore

The 28-year-old has worked with Hodgson before in the England squad and it comes as no surprise that the manager is looking to bring him to Selhurst Park.

More than anything else, Livermore is an extremely hard-working player. He often puts in a solid shift in the midfield area and he could work wonders for Palace. Yohan Cabaye has done a decent job for the Eagles but Livermore can bring in a sense of solidity and dominance that has been lacking.

The player came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur and has spent a good number of years in the Premier League, meaning he boasts of ample experience as well.

Surely, someone of Livermore’s calibre would not want to settle for life in the Championship. Thus, given his skills and the requirement at Palace, Hodgson must seize this opportunity to make a move for him.

Roy Hodgson

Over the course of the last campaign, Livermore chipped in with 2 goals and 2 assists for West Brom in 37 appearances in all competitions, which is quite commendable given the lacklustre season they endured.

His concentration levels and ability to hold on to the ball are both quite impressive and if given a chance at Palace, Livermore should be able to revive his career under Hodgson’s guidance. Now, it remains to be seen if the player chooses to join Palace or move elsewhere.
