Why closing down a £15m deal for this £40m-rated sensation could be brilliant for Tottenham

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a £15m deal for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish in the summer. Grealish proved to be an exceptional player for the Villans last season.

Steve Bruce’s men were unable to beat Fulham in the Championship play-off final to return to the Premier League but it goes without saying that Grealish played a key for the club in their promotion push.

Although it seemed he missed out on a chance to showcase his skills in the top-flight next season, Spurs might provide him with that opportunity.

Grealish was undoubtedly one of the best players in the Championship last season and his ability to play in the No.10 role earned him rave reviews. And Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is in dire need of boosting the depth in his attacking department in the summer.

For now, they only have Dele Alli to occupy the No.10 role and that could prove to be worrisome for Tottenham next season. While Alli is an exceptionally gifted player, Spurs will need someone like Grealish in the team to provide back-up.

Although he thrives in an attacking role, Grealish is also adept at playing in deeper midfield positions. In fact, he was deployed in a deeper role for a good majority of the 2017/18 season and yet, he managed to chip in with 3 goals and 6 assists.

Those numbers are a massive upgrade on Mousa Dembele, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Of course, Grealish would not be a like-for-like replacement for the Belgian but given his wide array of skills, he could be a hit at the north London club.

Furthermore, Pochettino often makes a number of tactical changes in midfield and more often than not, he might choose to deploy Grealish in an advanced role. If Alli is injured or unable to play, the Aston Villa star could play in his preferred No. 10 role.

Grealish has remarkably improved his physical strengths and he was the driving force behind Villa’s impressive performances last term. He would be a great addition for Tottenham but his price-tag could be a stumbling block in the move.

Tottenham are ready to pay £15m for him but Villa are holding out for around £40m. Despite all his strengths, it must be remembered that Grealish is a raw talent, who is relatively inexperienced in the Premier League. So, it remains to be seen if Tottenham manage to sign Grealish in the summer.
