All-in-all, the current Manchester United job will be Mourinho’s toughest task in his entire career as he will have to rebuild the squad in order to make them champions once again. It is clearly understood that Mourinho will be looking add some fresh faces to the squad, and for that, he will need to assess his current squad. United’s squad is studded with stellar names, yet some of them failed to justify their price tags and it won’t be a shock to see a few of them leaving the Theatre of Dreams in the coming summer.
Many top names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but the one name that shocked us was of the Serbian international, Nemanja Matic. Many media houses are claiming that the 27-year-old is ready to re-unite with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United. Matic didn’t have a wonderful 2015-16 campaign, but everyone is aware of what this 6 ft. 4 in. Serbian is capable of delivering. He was one of the star men in Chelsea’s 2014-15 squad which lifted the Premier League trophy under Mourinho.
It is a possibility that Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte might bring some fresh legs to the squad, and that could easily cut the playing time for Matic as he failed badly last season. Talking specifically about Manchester United; the sides do need a strong holding midfielder as both Schweinsteiger and Carrick do not have the age at their side. Carrick did sign a new contract with the Devil’s, but it is truly understood that he might not play a big role in Mourinho’s plans because let’s face it, he slows down the tempo of the game and Mourinho would never want that to happen.
Matic, on the other hand, is a strong and a quick midfielder, who loves to track forward at times. He is usually used as holding midfielder and the reason being, his imposing physical presence that is well capable of guarding the backline of the team. Matic is the kind of player who is always well positioned and that allows him to make a well-timed and illustrated challenges, and besides tackling, the Serbian is also known for his galactic vision of finding the teammate.
After Paul Scholes, the entire burden was forced upon Carrick and yes, he did his job with perfection, but maybe it is the right time to pass on the legacy to someone else. Matic has the Premier League experience, and besides that, he knows how to work on Mourinho’s tactics, therefore he might not take much time to settle down at the club. We all are aware of the fact that Manchester United do need a strong center back, and if in any case they failed to sign, then Matic will be a key figure in United’s squad.
