Why Chelsea should sign Nathan Ake once their transfer ban is lifted
Chelsea were the latest team to taste defeat at the hands of Liverpool this season, but the Blues should have won something from the game.
The Champions League holders struggled during the final 20 minutes of the game, and Mason Mount had a great chance to level the scoreline late in the tie.
The Blues created several chances against the Reds and even had VAR rule out a goal in the first half.
While the two goals conceded by Chelsea should have been dealt with better, especially in the second one, they can take some positives from the tie.
Fikayo Tomori was again impressive in the back and Andreas Christensen did well before picking up an injury.
However, the Blues still need a replacement for David Luiz and the return of Nathan Ake should be contemplated seriously.
A quality defender ready for a big move
Ake was sold by Chelsea to Bournemouth a few years ago, and the Dutch defender has been able to hone his craft with the Cherries.
The 24-year-old joined the Cherries initially on a loan but has become a mainstay in the defence under Eddie Howe.
Ake also has played senior games for the Dutch national side and the Telegraph claims that the defender is a target for the Blues once their transfer ban is lifted.
The 24-year-old is extremely quick at the back and would be a great addition to Frank Lampard’s young guns.
Tomori and Christensen look good as a pairing but Ake would provide the pair more competition, and he seems ready to move to a bigger club.
The youngster is also extremely versatile and can play on either side of the central defence while Ake can also do a job as a holding midfielder.
Lampard was forced to turn to his younger players due to the transfer ban, but the Blues have looked good under the Englishman.

Verdict
It was a surprise seeing Luiz leaving in the summer as the Blues were unable to land a replacement.
However, Ake has proved he can star in the Premier League and will only improve under the management of Lampard.
