Why Chelsea over Tottenham is the ideal destination for this free-scoring Bundesliga starlet with 9 goals this season

Why Chelsea is a better destination than Tottenham for Luka Jovic

According to a report in Calciomercato, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are targeting Benfica striker Luka Jovic, who is in the Bundesliga, playing for Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from the Portuguese club.

The Serbian striker has been in prolific form for the German club, who sit fourth in the league table, parallel with champions Bayern Munich. He has scored nine goals and supplied two assists in nine league appearances (three appearances from the bench).

It is just an astonishing return from a player who is on a season-long loan with Frankfurt. Jovic’s prolific form has caught the eye of the English clubs, and the two London giants are keeping close tabs on him. (Calciomercato)

However, here’s why Chelsea would be a better destination for him rather than Tottenham:

Jovic – An ideal goalscorer for Chelsea

Chelsea have made a near-perfect start to their league season, winning eight of the 12 league games played, drawing the other four. They are third in the table with 28 points, four behind leaders Manchester City and two behind second-placed Liverpool.

This should be considered an incredible start given that new manager Maurizio Sarri arrived very late in the pre-season and didn’t get much time to work with the squad.

The Blues have been a free-scoring team this season, unlike in the past decade. But their strikers haven’t been contributing as much as the manager would probably like them to. Olivier Giroud is yet to open his account in the Premier League, and though Alvaro Morata has started to score goals, he is yet to convince everyone at Stamford Bridge.

Hence, it won’t be a surprise if Chelsea buy a new striker sooner than later. Getting Jovic would be great as the Serbian is a natural goalscorer and could make the telling difference.

Why Tottenham is not an ideal destination

The problem with Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino is that Harry Kane starts every game as the lone striker unless he is injured. Hence, buying a quality striker like Jovic won’t make sense as any top-class player won’t be happy sitting on the bench for most of the games.

Therefore, Chelsea would be a better destination for the 20-year-old rather than Tottenham.
