Why Chelsea Over Manchester United Would Be A Better Destination For Arturo Vidal

Bayern Munich superstar Arturo Vidal is all set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, according to reports, with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly interested.

The £31.5m-rated Chilean was expected to fall down the pecking order at the start of the season when Bayern Munich secured the services of Corentin Tolisso, Sebastian Rudy and James Rodriguez. That, however, didn’t deter the former Juventus midfielder, who has once again proved to be one of Bayern’s best players this season.

That being said, Arturo Vidal’s future with the Bavarians looks kind of bleak, following their acquisition of Leon Goreztka. The German midfield sensation has signed a contract with the German champions and will join the club at the start of next season. Goretzka has presumably been brought in as the long-term replacement for Arturo Vidal, who is expected to leave the club this summer.

This has already alerted the likes of Chelsea and Man United, both of whom are vying for the signature of the Chilean midfielder. But which one of them is a better fit for Arturo Vidal?

Manchester United

Various reports claim that Manchester United are in pole position to sign Arturo Vidal in the summer. The Red Devils are in the market for a midfielder, following recent rumours regarding the potential departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in the summer.

Arturo Vidal could be an interesting addition to Jose Mourinho’s side. Considering the fact that Paul Pogba has shown immense potential playing in an advanced midfield position, the Portuguese mastermind could plan to deploy Nemanja Matic and Arturo Vidal in a 2-man midfield, with Pogba playing in a slightly advanced position.

This will enable the Frenchman to have more freedom in the final third, which will ultimately help him influence the game in the attacking department.

His superb ball-carrying ability coupled with his dangerous movements will definitely hand United an advantage in the final third, while the duo of Nemanja Matic and Arturo Vidal are more than capable of building a formidable midfield partnership.

Chelsea

Chelsea, on the other hand, have appeared quite tentative in central midfield this season, despite the addition of AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

In fact, the midfielder has completely failed to make a mark in the Premier League, following his £40m move from Monaco last summer. Partnering his compatriot, N’Golo Kante, Chelsea’s current midfield duo has failed to replicate the successful midfield combination of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante from last season.

The Blues also signed Danny Drinkwater last summer but the former Leicester midfielder has played only 430 minutes of Premier League football for Chelsea this season.

Arturo Vidal

Therefore, the acquisition of Arturo Vidal could be a sigh of relief for a majority of Chelsea fans. The Chilean has the dynamism and tenacity to emerge as a successful midfielder in the Premier League. His robust style of play is also ideal for the tactical philosophy of Antonio Conte should he remain as Chelsea’s head coach next season.

The Verdict

Chelsea would definitely prove to be a better fit for Arturo Vidal, who will be desperate for proper game-time, especially after competing with the likes of Corentin Tolisso, Sebastian Rudy and Thiago at Bayern for regular first-team action.

Considering the fact that both Bakayoko and Drinkwater have failed to make any kind of impact at Stamford Bridge this season, the Chilean could prove to be the missing piece in the jigsaw for the Blues. His partnership with N’Golo Kante in the centre of the midfield could be one of the things worth looking forward to should he make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
