Crystal Palace pouncing on this struggling Everton flop star would boost them up the table

Why Cenk Tosun would be a great coup for Crystal Palace

Bleacher Report suggests that Crystal Palace could sign Turkish striker Cenk Tosun, who could be on his way out of Everton.

Tosun, 28, came through the ranks of Eintracht Frankfurt’s youth system. He could only make 1 appearance for the German outfit’s senior team and later moved to Gaziantepspor, where he played over 100 matches for them.

The striker then made a name for himself at Besiktas, where he scored 64 times from 142 matches for the Turkish giants. His prolific goalscoring record in Turkey prompted Everton to sign him in 2018.

Since his move to Goodison Park, Tosun has not enjoyed the best of days. In 44 appearances for the Toffees, he has scored just 10 goals. He has been out of favour at the club and made just one start in the league this season.

Now that Silva has been sacked, Tosun’s only hope of reviving his career is rested upon the new manager. But with Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and youngster Moise Kean in their attacking ranks, Tosun’s chances look bleak.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have only one established centre-forward in their ranks. Jordan Ayew is their top scorer in the league with 4 goals. While Christian Benteke hasn’t opened his account, Connor Wickham has been inconsistent with just 3 games to his name.

In this regard, Tosun could be useful in partnering Ayew up front or he can also be decisive coming on from the bench.

Roy Hodgson’s men are currently 9th in the league standings after starting the season on a low note. They seemed to have regrouped and with 2 wins in their last 3 games, they have managed to close the gap on the top six.

Despite being in a respectable position at present, the Eagles have been inconsistent so far. Their league goals so far have not been competitive enough. They have scored just 14 goals from a possible 16 games and this shows they might be in trouble in the latter stages of the season.

Tosun was impressive before his move to Everton and in 375 appearances in all competitions, he scored 155 goals, which shows that the has got a knack of scoring goals regularly if given proper chances.

The 28-year-old may not be the lethal striker he once used to be but he can be a great addition to Hodgson’s squad going to the second half of the season.

With Wilfried Zaha also on the verge of moving away from Selhurst Park, Hodgson would be capable of making his squad put up a good fight with Tosun in his ranks.

Verdict

Not only will the Turkish international be a good back up for Ayew, but he would also be able to bolster their attack in much-needed situations. Hodgson must make sure his side has enough quality and back-up in case he decides to rotate his players.

With the January window approaching, Crystal Palace must take advantage of Tosun’s situation at Everton and get their hands on him before he makes other decisions. It would be a good coup by the Eagles if they manage to lure him in the upcoming transfer window.
