Why Celtic star James Forrest would be a brilliant fit at Leicester City

Back in June, a report from the Leicester Mercury had claimed that Leicester City were interested in signing Celtic winger James Forrest, but a move didn’t go through during the summer transfer window.

James Forrest, 28, is one of the best wingers in the Scottish Premiership, and the Scotland international has been on the books of Celtic his entire professional club football career so far. He has been fantastic over the last two seasons, playing the best football of his career under Brendan Rodgers, who is now Leicester City’s manager.

There is no need for the Scotsman to leave the Hoops, as he is playing for a massive club, featuring in Europe, and winning major trophies. However, a move to the Premier League to reunite with Rodgers at Leicester could be very tempting for Forrest.

Leicester have shown ambition under Rodgers, who wants his team to play possession-based, high-octane and pressing style of football. Barring Harry Maguire, who joined Manchester United in the summer, Rodgers managed to keep hold of his star players and bolstered his squad with some few smart additions.

In James Maddison, Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet, Ayoze Perez, Demarai Gray and Wilfred Ndidi, Leicester have an exciting squad. The Foxes have hopes of breaking into the top six this term and while they are on the right path, Rodgers needs some more quality in his squad to achieve the club’s ambitions.

A new attacker isn’t essential at the King Power Stadium but with Rodgers allowing Rachid Ghezzal to leave on loan to Fiorentina and the likes of Demarai Gray and Marc Albrighton proving very inconsistent, a move for James Forrest would make sense.

Forrest has developed into one of the most effective players in the Scottish Premier League since graduating from the Celtic academy ranks. He is a prolific scorer and creator of goals, including seven strikes and five assists from 14 matches this season after his award-winning 2018-19 campaign.

Predominantly a right-winger, the Scotland international is extremely versatile as he can play in any attacking positions as well as a wing-back when required. He does his fair share of defensive duties, making him a perfect fit for Rodgers’ system at Leicester.

With plenty of pace and power in his locker, Forrest’s got all the attributes to really shine at the King Power Stadium, whilst his European experience and winning mentality could come in handy for a Leicester side determined to break into the top-six this season.

Forrest represents an affordable yet quality option for the Foxes and one who could offer a lot of value for money in the transfer window.
