Why Celtic should beat Rangers to sign Lawrence Shankland
According to a report in Daily Record, Scotland’s Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers have been scouting Dundee United’s scoring sensation Lawrence Shankland from the past few days.
The scouting team of both those clubs were at Tannadice watching the striker net a hat-trick for the Championship side in their win over Morton last week. (h/t Daily Record)
Shankland, who was previously plying his trade for Ayr United and was the star man there, arrived at Dundee this summer on a free transfer. He has spent his time playing for Morton, Aberdeen and other Scottish clubs.
As per the report, the 24-year-old’s sharp form in front of goal has already stirred up Rangers legend Ally McCoist to say that Scotland boss Steve Clark should have him in his squad for the Scotland national team. (h/t Daily Record)
However, here’s why Celtic should beat Rangers in signature of the Dundee United striker:
Hoops can add support to Edouard by signing Shankland
Lawrence Shankland is a quality forward line player, who prefers to lead the line but is capable of playing as a right-winger or as an attacking midfielder.
His form has been stupendous this season so far, scoring 10 goals and assisting two in 10 appearances in all competitions. He is one of the main reasons why Dundee are top of the Championship table.
In terms of his attributes, the 24-year-old has decent pace to burn and stretch the opposition defence. He is physically strong enough to hold off the challenges and be an aerial threat from crosses and set-pieces.
Furthermore, he is extremely clinical in front of goal around the opposition box, which is the most important in a striker.
Celtic can sign him to add more support to their star striker Odsonne Edouard. Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo are there as backups, but the duo hasn’t done enough to share the goal-scoring responsibility with Edouard.
We can conclude by saying that Neil Lennon’s men should beat Rangers in signing Lawrence Shankland from Dundee United.
