Why Celtic have completed the deal of the season by handing a 4-year extension to this fan favourite

Why Celtic have done great by giving a new contract to James Forrest

According to reports in the Sun, Celtic winger James Forrest has signed a new four-year contract with the club. This extension will keep the 27-year-old at the home of the Scottish champions until 2022.

Forrest is an academy graduate of the club and has improved markedly in the last 12 to 24 months. He was a PFA Player of the year nominee in Scotland last season, which just shows how much he has evolved under the management of Brendan Rodgers. (Sun)

The Scottish international has racked up over 300 appearances since making his debut in 2010. He has won 14 major honours with the club, including seven successive Premiership titles, which is just insane to think.

The 27-year-old is now an integral part of the team and hence, it makes sense for the Hoops to give him the new contract. Here’s why the new deal could benefit both the parties.

Quality and now experience gained

Forrest has been a part of the Celtic setup since 2003 when he was aged 12. He joined the club’s academy and performed at a high level on a consistent basis. His performances for the youth teams were always very appreciative of the talent and fearlessness he possesses.

After seven years at the junior level, the 27-year-old eventually made his first appearance for the senior team in 2010. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and has continually strived to improved and cement his position in the team.

Under Brendan Rodgers, the Scotsman has taken his game to a new level, adding that spark which is vital for a player like him. Forrest has the quality to be one of the best players in Scottish football and now at 27, he has gained the required experience to take Celtic to the next level.

Verdict

Having sold Moussa Dembele in the summer and with the strike force struggling a bit to create chances, Celtic have done the right thing by handing a new contract to Forrest. The 27-year-old is one of their own, meaning he knows what it takes to wear the Celtic shirt week in week out in front large crowds, under pressure.
