Newcastle United’s goalscoring prowess would improve by signing this prolific 28-year-old

Why Cedric Bakambu would be a good signing for Newcastle

Back in July 2017, the Sunday People (h/t The Chronicle) had claimed that Newcastle United were interested in signing Cedric Bakambu, who was then plying his trade for Villarreal.

However, a deal didn’t materialize and the striker left Villarreal to join Chinese Super League side BJ Sinobo Guoan in January 2018.

Cedric Bakambu, 28, has been a smash hit in the Chinese Super League. He has been a prolific goalscorer for Sinobo Guoan, managing seven goals and four assists in 13 league games this season.

With the DR Congo international continually impressing in China, Newcastle must rekindle their interest in him during the winter transfer window.

Newcastle have struggled throughout the new season, with the forwards failing to supply goals regularly. Record signing Joelinton has lacked service more often than not, managing just one goal in the process.

The Brazilian is a decent striker but he needs proper service and support if the Magpies are to see the best of him.

Neither Allan Saint-Maximin nor Miguel Almiron has done enough to help Joelinton, resulting in Newcastle’s problems in front of the goal. That’s why Steve Bruce should sign another striker to enhance the quality as well as give his squad enough depth.

Cedric Bakambu would be a good fit at St. James’ Park. The 28-year-old started his career in France with Sochaux, where he spent four years before joining Turkish club Bursaspor in 2014. After just one season, he signed for Villarreal and scored 46 goals in three La Liga seasons.

He is a quality striker and would enhance Newcastle’s attack – they need a player of his goalscoring ability up top. The DR Congo international has been a prolific goalscorer for Sinobo Guoan.

Even though the standard of the Chinese Super League is poorer than the Premier League, Bakambu has the qualities to thrive in English football and solve the Magpies goalscoring problems. Truly, he could make a difference at Tyneside.

Verdict

Bakambu could add that much-needed cutting edge to Newcastle’s attack, whilst being the perfect partner for Joelinton upfront.
