Burnley going all out to sign this 29-year-old Leeds ace in January would help Dyche solve two major tactical issues

Why Burnley should go all out to sign Mateusz Klich from Leeds in January

Back in July, a report from the Sun had claimed that Burnley were interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich. However, no deal materialised during the summer transfer window.

Mateusz Klich, 29, had a fantastic season for Leeds United in Marcelo Bielsa’s first season at the club. He was absolutely outstanding last season as he bagged 10 goals and nine assists from 50 appearances, but couldn’t help the Peacocks achieve top-flight promotion.

With the Pole being a regular fixture for the Whites this season as well, Marcelo Bielsa will be reluctant to lose the midfielder as he eyes promotion. Nevertheless, Burnley must test Leeds’ resolve with an audacious bid in January.

Burnley have a made a far better start to this season than last season and currently find themselves 13th in the Premier League table. The likes of Ashley Barnes, Dwight McNeil, Ashley Westwood and James Tarkowski have been some of the very few consistent performers for the Clarets.

Just like last season, Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood have shared the responsibility of scoring goals. Both Barnes and Wood have four each so far this campaign, proving to be a real handful for opposition defenders in the box.

However, what Burnley sorely lacks is creativity from the middle of the park, with Sean Dyche possessing one-dimensional style of midfielders in his squad. To add creativity and goals from midfield, signing Mateusz Klich would be a step in the right direction.

Klich was one of Bielsa’s greatest revelations last season, scoring plenty of goals as well as supplying assists as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion. He did very well in Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 system, as he thrived as one of the advanced midfielders and often set the tone of the game.

The Poland international’s ability to pick a pass in the final third and create chances from open play with his crisp passing, vision and pinpoint crossing has earned him plenty of plaudits in the Championship and he truly deserves a chance to prove his credentials in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is also a very versatile player, capable of doing a job on the right flank, attacking midfield and as a deep-lying midfielder if required.

It doesn’t require a rocket scientist to figure out that Burnley have found themselves bereft of ideas in the final third and someone like Klich could possibly add another dimension to their attack, whilst also improving the quality of the team’s supply lines – thus, helping Dyche kill two birds with one stone.

Verdict

Klich is 29 and Burnley are hardly amongst the big spenders in the Premier League, meaning the Clarets will surely be looking to drive a hard bargain in January.
