Why Burnley must splash £40m and complete this double swoop for talented duo

Rodriguez and Dawson could work wonders for the Clarets

Burnley have made a return to Europe after a 51-year absence. The Clarets will be hoping to make it past the playoffs to compete in the Europa League next season. Sean Dyche has done a brilliant job at Turf Moor and will be aiming to take the club to new heights this year. Burnley were solid at the back and cohesive in the attack.

The manager is yet to start his business in the transfer window but he should do so soon. If Burnley are to make a strong start to their European campaign, the manager is going to have to bolster his squad before the start of the season.

The club have been linked with West Bromwich Albion duo Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson. Burnley made an initial £25million for the pair back in June but the Baggies immediately rejected it. West Bromwich are reportedly quoting at least £20million for each player. Burnley made a renewed offer of £15million for Rodriguez, which was subsequently rejected as well. The Baggies seem to be playing hardball after already losing a number of their stars in the off-season.

Both the Baggies stars were impressive for the club in an otherwise dismal campaign which saw them relegated. Jay Rodriguez, a former Burnley man, made a total of 37 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist. The striker also scored 3 goals in 3 FA Cup appearances.

He was a crucial part of their attacking setup last season, as the Baggies struggled to produce the goods in the final third. Rodriguez is a brilliant option to call upon, with the striker possessing deadly finishing ability and clinical instincts in front of goal.

Craig Dawson, on the other hand, was a rock at the back for West Brom. He made a total of 28 appearances last season, scoring 2 goals. He was a leader and a commander at the back for the Baggies. Often authoritative, Dawson likes to keeps his defensive line in check at all times. He’s a tall, strong and agile centre-back who also possesses impressive pace. The 28-year-old is also strong in the air, posing a huge aerial threat from set-pieces.

As Burnley embark on a new journey this year, the club are going to need additional signings to strengthen their squad. The arrival of Dawson and Rodriguez would see Sean Dyche receive considerable strength and depth in the squad. Burnley should certainly splash the cash on the duo who could work wonders for them next season.
