Man Utd signing this Portuguese dynamo for £60m would help restore their lost glory

Why Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect signing for Manchester United

According to Daily Star, Manchester United are growing increasingly confident of signing Bruno Fernandes in a £60m deal.

The report adds that Fernandes’ agents have arrived in London to hold meetings over a potential move for the Portuguese with United’s board. And there could be a possible move this month before the transfer window closes.

United are trying hard to sign him and that is a good sign since they need an established midfielder at any cost.

Despite doing well midway through the season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have fallen short on numerous occasions. The midfield has been a concern ever since they let Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera leave in the last two transfer windows.

Solskjaer opted out from signing a midfielder last summer and decided to trust the players available at his disposal. And that seems to have cost the Red Devils much this campaign. Out of the three central midfielders available at the manager’s disposal, two of them – Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba – are set to be on the sidelines for quite a while.

Fred has improved a lot this season and looked good to go but his performance against Manchester City clearly showed a lack of inconsistency. He needs a partner alongside him to carry the momentum forward.

With games coming thick and fast, Solskjaer should revamp his squad in several if he wished to see his side take control of their situation, which has deteriorated in the past few weeks. And one key area where United need improvisation is the central midfield.

In that regard, Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect solution to their midfield woes.

The 25-year-old rose to prominence with his powerful displays last season, where he scored 32 goals for the Portuguese outfit in 53 games across all competitions and further set up 18 more for his teammates. He finished the season as the best player in the club.

He has carried the same form into this year and has already notched up 13 goals from 24 games. And his potentials can never be doubted.

A central midfielder by trade, Fernandes has can also be effective in the team’s offensive transition, becoming the main distributor in the game. However, he occupies an advanced position while the team attacks and that is where he positions himself to score easily.

He has been used as an attacking midfielder and has been effective on several occasions. This could be more helpful for United, where players like Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira have failed to deliver.

Not only can Fernandes be seen only as an offensive player, but he has also contributed well in defensive situations. Thus, proving his abilities as a box-to-box midfielder, a role which none of United’s players has managed to do well in.

The video below shows glimpses of the Portugal international’s creativity combined with his long-range shots and passes and as a complete midfielder what he could bring to Old Trafford.

With Pogba and McTominay out of action, United should prioritize a midfielder, who can play with perfection in the middle of the park and add fluidity to their game style. And Bruno Fernandes perfectly fits to this role.

His inclusion in the squad can make United a force to reckon with and therefore, he must be signed as early as possible.
