Bruno Fernandes was one of the hottest properties in the summer window. The Portuguese midfielder had a stellar campaign with Sporting Lisbon and became a regular for the national side too.
Fernandes helped Portugal win the Nations League title, and seemed set for a big move away. Tottenham were interested in the 25-year-old but couldn’t get the deal over the line (h/t Sun).
The transfer miss hasn’t affected Fernandes who has six goals and five assists so far this season.
However, Spurs could return for the Portuguese in the winter window, according to A Bola, and try to complete the deal (h/t Sun).
Tottenham have had a tough season already and need more freshness in the side. They were active in the summer regarding players coming in, but Fernandes could provide them with a spark if he joins in January.
Spurs might have conceded 10 goals in their last two games, but scoring has also been a problem for them.
Harry Kane has scored five goals in this campaign with the next best scorer sitting on two goals.
However, there seems to be an edge missing from their midfield with Dele Alli having a poor campaign.
The Englishman would drive from the midfield and link up well with Kane to score goals. Injuries seem to have affected his form and he was recently dropped from the England national team too.
Fernandes is a regular scorer and would be great just behind Kane. The 25-year-old could also play up top while he has also featured out wide for Sporting.
The Portuguese could be another versatile addition to the team and can take some of the scoring pressure off Kane.
Son Heung-min is another who can get the goals, but the South Korean is also played in different positions throughout a season.
Last season could have been considered as a bit of a fluke for Fernandes, but he seems to be continuing his scoring ways in this campaign too.
Tottenham splashed huge on Tanguy Ndombele and could buy Giovani Lo Celso permanently in the summer.
However, a January deal for Fernandes could get their attacking edge back, and push them towards the top-four.
The FA Cup is also to start somewhere around January for the Premier League sides and that is the realistic trophy that Tottenham could land unless they get their act together in Europe.
