West Ham are in the worst of spots this season and are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone. Having won just 5 of their overall 19 matches, the Hammers are languishing above the bottom-three at 17th place.
Nothing seems to be working for the club and the East London side are in clear need of some reinforcements.
With the January transfer window around the corner, the club need a striker, with the side unable to find the back of the net as much as they would have liked to.
Having managed to hit the target just 20 times this season and with his forwards scoring just 8 goals between them, a clinical finisher would be one of the top priorities for the Hammers in January, the report adds.
That said, Hull City ace Bowen could be a great signing for the struggling Hammers. The 23-year old has been in sensational form, scoring a whopping 16 goals from 24 matches in the Championship.
He has also contributed to his side with 4 assists so far. At the moment, he is in the running for the Championship Golden Boot along with Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Leominster-born youngster has been a key figure under the Grant McCann-led Hull City side, scoring more than half of their 37 league goals this season.
After spending his time in the youth academy of Hereford, Bowen’s impressive performances helped him break into the first team in 2014.
However, with his side being expelled from the Football Conference later in June that year, Bowen made a switch to Hull City, who were playing in the Premier League back then.
However, it was not until 2016 that he made his debut for the Tigers, featuring seven times in his first top-flight season. Bowen finally had his big break in the 2017-18 season, making 42 appearances and scoring 14 goals for Hull,.
He scored an impressive 22 goals from 46 games last season, enhancing his reputation as one of the clinical finishers in the second-tier. With West Ham in the midst of a huge crisis after a dismal show by their strikers, this would be the best time for them to rope in the consistent and clinical Bowen.
Hammers’ summer signing Sebastien Haller has not yet lived up to the expectations and has managed to score just 5 goals despite starting in most of their league games.
Meanwhile, Albian Ajeti, who arrived from Basel last summer along with Haller, has been completely overlooked for selection and is yet to open his account.
In recent weeks, Pellegrini, who has been sacked by the club, opted to play winger Michail Antonio in the No.9 role. However, he has found the target just once in 7 games, making no difference to the Hammers’ long list of attacking woes.
With West Ham struggling for goals this season, they really need a prolific goal-scorer like Bowen amongst them if they are to stay in the Premier League at the end of the season.
Also, having played in a variety of positions in the attack, Bowen can be deployed anywhere up front and has consistently performed over the past 2 years. Hence, West Ham should sign the in-form winger at the earliest, especially in this hour of utmost need.
