According to the Sunday Mirror (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are in pole position to sign Hull City ace Jarrod Bowen.
The Foxes seem to be ahead of Leeds United, Newcastle and Southampton in the chase for the Hull City winger, who is rated at around £10million, according to Sunday Mirror (h/t Leicestershire Live).
The 22-year-old is in sensational form, having scored 16 goals from 22 games in the Championship this season. His recent impressive displays even won him the Championship player of the month award last month, signifying his importance in the Hull squad.
However, his team has struggled this season, with the side languishing at the bottom half of the table in 14th place. Having scored the majority of his side’s 34 goals this season, it is no big surprise that Leicester are on the lookout for the in-form forward.
Bowen, who joined Hull City in 2014, began his career in the youth ranks at Hereford and soon rose to prominence, later establishing himself as a regular within the senior side.
Leicester, meanwhile, are on an impressive run-of-form as they lie second in the league table behind leaders Liverpool by 10 points. All has been well so far for the Foxes, who under new manager Brendan Rodgers seemed to have ticked well in all departments.
Also, the form of veteran striker Jamie Vardy has been one of the major reasons for their eye-catching displays this season. The Englishman is on a goal-scoring spree and is currently the league’s highest goal-scorer with 16 goals in 17 games.
Though he seems to be scoring goals for fun even at this age, it does not make him any younger, as he is already 32. A dip in form or an injury to their in-form man is all that is needed to change the whole scenario and put the Foxes in a spot of bother.
Rodgers has Kelechi Iheanacho also in his ranks and the youngster has been on target when called upon. However, he is not as consistent as Vardy and has not proved to be entirely reliable.
Hence, Leicester need someone apart from Vardy, who could score goals on a regular basis and win them matches. Bowen would be perfect to play that role. The young Englishman was on target 22 times in the league last season, improving his own tally of 15 from the 2017-18 campaign.
Predominantly a winger, Bowen is comfortable playing anywhere in the attack and could at times be used as an attacking midfielder too.
With Vardy already past his thirties, Leicester are in dire need of a prolific goal-scorer in their ranks. In Bowen, the Foxes would have a perfect replacement for their star striker.
Bowen could prove to be a major hit like Vardy, who also came up from the lower divisions to become a potent strike-force later in his career.
