Bournemouth signing this out of favour Liverpool star would be a brilliant coup by Eddie Howe

Bournemouth opinion: Should the Cherries sign Alberto Moreno?

Good home form and abysmal away form define Bournemouth’s campaign this season as they sit 12th in the Premier League. The Cherries have suffered from injuries to their star players at crucial periods but Eddie Howe’s brilliance has kept them safe so far.

Bournemouth’s squad is fairly young compared to most teams in the Premier League with only three outfield players over the age of 30. One of them is left-back Charlie Daniels, who will turn 33 in a few months and is a player that Bournemouth have to replace in the summer.

Diego Rico was brought in by the Cherries in the summer and has done a decent job when played but another addition to that area will surely bring the best out of the Spaniard. The Cherries have to consider Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno when his contract with the Reds expires in the summer.

Moreno has often been ridiculed for his defensive frailties and has played second fiddle to Andrew Robertson. Moreno, still only 26 years old, has a chance to reignite his career away from Anfield at the end of the season.

The Spaniard has been exposed defensively at times but his pace helps him track back and quickly attend to the danger. The Spaniard is at times a liability to a big club but for a mid-table one like Bournemouth, he could do a decent job.

Moreno could work very well in Bournemouth’s attacks down the left flank especially when combined with Ryan Fraser or former teammate Jordon Ibe. His pace allows him to get in behind the last defender and his one-touch link-up play in and around the box is fantastic.

The 26-year-old is also a very good crosser of the ball and the likes of Callum Wilson would thrive from his deliveries. Moreno’s tackling is quite underrated but it made him stand out at Sevilla before he moved. The Spaniard also has a good left foot and is capable of having a go at goal from distance.

Conclusion

As good a servant as Charlie Daniels has been for Bournemouth over the years, it is time for the Cherries to say goodbye. Diego Rico needs more game time at the club and the addition of Alberto Moreno will bring the best out of both.

His availability on a free in the summer is a massive positive for Eddie Howe’s side and he is an option worth considering for the Cherries boss.
