This 21-year-old starlet valued at around £12.8m isn’t what Bournemouth need

Why Bournemouth should avoid signing Dortmund’s Jacob Bruun Larsen

According to Sky Sports, Bournemouth are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund forward Jacob Bruun Larsen this month. Dortmund said to value him in the region of £12.8m, with 18 months left on his current contract.

Borussia Dortmund signed Jacob Bruun Larsen, 21, from Danish side Lyngby Boldklub in 2015. The forward, who spent half a season on loan at Stuttgart in 2018, made his senior Denmark debut in March last year against Kosovo.

The Dane has fallen down the pecking order at Signal Iduna Park, managing only four games in the Bundesliga this season. He has also made two Champions League appearances.

Having played very little this term, Bruun Larsen is understood to be keeping his options open at this stage of the transfer window, the report adds.

Bournemouth are in a terrible run of form and find themselves in the drop zone, three points adrift of safety following the defeat to bottom-placed Norwich City on Saturday. They have now failed to score in four consecutive Premier League games – their worst run in the top-flight.

The Cherries have won just two Premier League games in their last 17 attempts, and unless they don’t bring in fresh faces this month, chances of the sea coast club staying in the Premier League will be slim. It is true Eddie Howe has 10 players in the treatment room but interest in Jacob Bruun Larsen seems a bit strange.

Howe has a lot of options in the wide areas, with David Brooks, Junior Stanislas, Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, Harry Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Jordon Ibe in the squad.

Brooks, Stanislas and Danjuma are out injured, while Ibe has played just two league games this season. Fraser hasn’t enjoyed a great season at the Vitality Stadium, managing just a goal and three assists.

On loan from Liverpool, Harry Wilson has been one of the very few bright spots for the Cherries in an otherwise disappointing campaign. Harry Wilson has scored six times in 19 appearances and is the club’s top-scorer – ahead of both Joshua King and Callum Wilson.

Bruun Larsen has enjoyed limited game time at Dortmund this season but he remains a talented player who can thrive if given regular opportunities.

However, last season, he managed only two goals and as many assists, and managed only one appearance in the 2017/18 campaign due to a knee injury. Given his history, the Denmark international doesn’t seem like he will improve Bournemouth’s attacking options.

It’s clear that Howe’s side need a potent goalscorer and Jacob Bruun Larsen just isn’t the answer. Hence, the Cherries must simply avoid splashing the cash on the Dortmund winger.
