Bournemouth cashing in on this out-of-favour midfielder would be a blessing in disguise

Why Bournemouth cashing in on Emerson Hyndman makes perfect sense

According to the Bournemouth Daily Echo, out-of-favour Bournemouth star Emerson Hyndman is set to finalize a permanent transfer to MLS outfit Atlanta United on January 1, with the Cherries ready to make a decision on the player’s future.

The 23-year-old central midfielder completed a loan from away from the Vitality Stadium this past summer to join Atlanta United midway through the 2019 season and the MLS giants are ready to sign him on a permanent deal.

Born in Dallas, United States, Hyndman started his footballing education at FC Dallas before earning a move across the Atlantic with Fulham back in 2011, where he spent time at the youth and reserve level prior to his senior breakthrough for the Cottagers during the 2014-15 campaign.

Having clocked up 28 appearances for Fulham over the course of two seasons, Hyndman came through the door at Bournemouth in the summer of 2016 before moving north of the border to join Old Firm giants Rangers on loan in January 2017.

The 23-year-old, who has been capped twice by the United States at the senior international level, spent the first half of the previous campaign on loan at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian following an impressive six months at Ibrox.

However, despite enjoying considerable success on his loan spells away from the Vitality Stadium, Emerson Hyndman has never managed to break into manager Eddie Howe’s first-team plans in the Premier League.

The midfielder’s move to the south coast club from West London three years ago promised a lot, given his obvious talent and potential. However, he currently finds himself surplus to requirements after failing to live up to the expectations.

To that end, Bournemouth’s decision to allow the 23-year-old to join Atlanta United on a permanent deal certainly looks like a fair settlement for all parties involved.

Hyndman’s future at the Vitality Stadium looks very bleak and cashing in on him makes perfect sense.

Eddie Howe already has a plethora of central midfield options available at his disposal, with summer recruit from Huddersfield Town, Philip Billing, establishing himself as a regular fixture in the playing XI alongside Colombian international Jefferson Lerman.

Lewis Cook has deputized for the likes of Lerma and Billing, with Dan Gosling and Andrew Surman only playing a bit-part role so far in the Premier League.

The Cherries already have enough depth in their options in the middle of the park and it would have been extremely difficult for someone like Hyndman to fit into the manager’s plans moving forward.

Looking at things from the player’s perspective, Hyndman is no longer an emerging prospect. At 23, he is at a crossroads in his career where he needs to settle down permanently to push for greater heights.

Hence, a permanent move to Atlanta United in his homeland would be ideal.

With that in mind, Bournemouth’s decision to cash in on Emerson Hyndman looks like a good settlement for all parties concerned.
