Why Barcelona Are Better Off Signing This Juventus Superstar Than The £120m Philippe Coutinho

Why Barcelona Should Definitely Make A Move For Miralem Pjanic Instead Of Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona have been interested in signing Philippe Coutinho for quite some time but if latest reports are to believed, they could be eyeing Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic as a backup option. Liverpool will not let Coutinho leave without demanding an exorbitant amount and although the price has never been an issue for the Catalan giants, one must bear in mind that they splashed out quite some money on signing Ousmane Dembele in the summer. Hence, spending so much on another player in a matter of months may not be feasible for Barcelona, making Pjanic a viable alternative.

Barcelona are understood to be ardent admirers of the player but have taken a recent interest in him after seeing the way he has blossomed under Massimiliano Allegri. His defensive qualities are top-notch and he also contributes to the attack quite well. The Catalans are in a good place right now atop the La Liga table and have been quite strong in the Champions League as well but the road ahead will only get tougher and a player like Pjanic could truly boost their chances.

One look at Pjanic playing and you can just tell that he boasts of a superior technical ability and has a very mature sense of positional awareness. The midfielder is also strong in set-piece situations and his assists could truly elevate what Lionel Messi does up front. Moreover, if Barcelona can convince him to leave Juventus, the player would prove to be a comparatively cheaper option than the £120m rated Coutinho.

Signing Pjanic would undoubtedly add a layer of depth to Barcelona’s attack and that can help Ernesto Valverde’s hopes of winning the La Liga and perhaps even the Champions League. The situation at present is certainly looking good for the Catalans, with Paulinho having settled in brilliantly. To make things all the more interesting, summer acquisition Dembele is on his way back from his injury and if Pjanic joins the club, Valverde could potentially be on the verge of establishing Barcelona as winners this season.

Hence, instead of wasting money on trying to lure Coutinho from Liverpool – which seems quite impossible at this point – Barcelona could use their resources to bring another player to Camp Nou. And if he boasts of qualities such as Pjanic’s, it might not even seem as much of a Plan-B. Pjanic is one of the best players across Europe right now and could also prove to be what Barcelona need in order to sharpen their attack further.
