Aston Villa signing this 21-year-old goal machine from Scotland would liven up their attack phenomenally

Why Aston Villa should go all out for Odsonne Edouard in January

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard would be a good fit for Aston Villa, claims former Rangers and Scotland forward Kris Boyd.

Odsonne Edouard, 21, has scored heavily for Celtic over the last two years, attracting interest from clubs like Lyon and Napoli. The Frenchman has 43 goals in 98 appearances for the Hoops since his move from Paris Saint-Germain. He has hit the ground running in the new season, with five goals and an assist already to his name after seven league games.

Kris Boyd has urged Aston Villa to approach the prolific Celtic centre-forward, as he feels £30m would be enough to bring him to the club. That being said, should Aston Villa approach Celtic with an eye-watering bid for Edouard?

Aston Villa spent a lot of money over the summer to reinforce their squad after achieving promotion back to the Premier League. With last season’s top scorer Tammy Abraham having returned to Chelsea following his loan spell, the Villans boss Dean Smith decided to replace him with Wesley Moraes.

After scoring a brace in the 5-1 thumping of Norwich City at Carrow Road at the weekend, Wesley has four goals in eight league games. Those numbers are decent particularly due to the fact that it is the Brazilian’s first season in England. However, beyond Wesley, the Villans lack firepower in their squad.

Jonathan Kodjia hasn’t been a prolific goalscorer in his career, while Keinan Davis is very young and a decent option to have from the bench. So without any second thoughts, Dean Smith should prioritise signing a new centre-forward in January if his side, who have won two of their opening eight games of the Premier League season, are to avoid relegation at the first time of asking.

Odsonne Edouard would be a good fit at Villa Park. Edouard is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and has proven himself to a very good goalscorer, developing a habit of scoring in big games, especially against arch-rivals Rangers.

Yes, the Scottish Premiership is a lower standard than the Premier League, but the 21-year-old has shown his quality in Europe too.

The Frenchman has a lot of pace and power in his locker with his tendency to play on the shoulder of the last defender making him extremely dangerous. Edouard is an exciting player and is great to watch, with his speed, dribbling, hold-up play and finishing skills, thus making him a sight for sore eyes.

The former PSG kid would not only add quality to Villa’s attack but also depth to the squad.

Verdict

It’s a no-brainer to sign a striker in January and Villa could do a smart job by bringing in Edouard.
