10 goals, 11 assists – Everton signing this 6ft 5in Russian giant would be a big boost for Silva

Why Artem Dzyuba could be a solution to Everton’s goalscoring woes

Back in September, Zenit St. Petersburg striker Artem Dzyuba told Sport24 (h/t Liverpool Echo) that Everton were interested in signing him during the January transfer window, but he decided to remain with his club.

Artem Dzyuba, 31, has been in very impressive form for Zenit Saint Petersburg, scoring 10 goals and producing 11 assists so far in all competitions this season. He also has nine goals and five assists for Russia in 2019.

With the Russian marksman out of contract at the end of the season, Everton should reignite their interest and look to sign him in January.

Marco Silva’s Everton have a plethora of attacking talents but they just aren’t able to score goals consistently. In the Premier League, they’ve managed just 13 in 12 games, with new signing Moise Kean yet to get off the mark for the Merseysiders.

Cenk Tosun has struggled to cope with the intensity of Premier League ever since he arrived at the club from Besiktas, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still learning the trade.

Silva has at times used Richarlison through the middle, but the Brazilian is at his best when he operates down the left flank. That’s enough to suggest why Everton need a new striker for the second half of the season. In that regard, Artem Dzyuba would be a good fit for the Toffees.

Signing Dzyuba would give Everton’s attack a target-man, someone who Silva doesn’t have in his squad. The 31-year-old is exceptional in the air, great at linking up the play and possesses the ability to bring his teammates into the game.

A tidy finisher inside the area, the Russian looks tailor-made for the hustle and bustle of Premier League football. In the video below, one could see Dzyuba’s potency in the box.

Even at 31, Dzyuba could give the Toffees two to three years of top-quality service. Furthermore, the Russian would be a great mentor for youngsters like Calvert-Lewin and Kean.

Calvert-Lewin and Kean are two bright young strikers that Everton have at their disposal and having an experienced head in the mould of Dzyuba for a short period of time could massively help them in their development.

Verdict

There is no doubting Dzyuba’s goalscoring ability, having proven himself at the highest level for a number of years now. Hence, Everton must go for the 6ft 5in striker as he could be the man to increase their productivity in the final third.
