Why Arsenal would become an unbeatable machine if Emery plays £102.5m star duo together

Why Unai Emery should opt a Lacazette-Aubameyang strike partnership at Arsenal

Arsenal made it back to back Premier League wins under Unai Emery for the first time and the club are starting to show progress under the new manager. Unai Emery partnered Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang up front for the game against Cardiff City this past weekend.

Thanks to the tantalising duo, the Gunners picked up a much-needed 3-2 win against the Bluebirds. Mustafi opened the scoring for Unai Emery’s men but Cardiff struck back through Victor Camarasa. Both Lacazette and Aubameyang got on the scoresheet to hand the Gunners the win.

It seems as though Emery should now choose to go with the pair to lead the line. Though Henrikh Mkhitaryan was dropped to the bench, Arsenal looked fluid and crisp going forward. The Gunners created a plethora of opportunities up front with both Lacazette and Aubameyang flourishing alongside each other.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker, who was signed for £56m, was wasteful in his first three opening games but struck a superb goal to open his account for the season. It’s almost as though Aubameyang plays better when Lacazette is on the field.

A surprising fact showed that Arsenal tend to win most of their games in which Lacazette starts and lose those that he doesn’t. Though the £46.5m signing played as a lone striker role against Cardiff City, with Aubameyang taking up a role on the left wing, both seemed to thrive in the final third.

The Gabon striker often switched positions with Lacazette up front, making it very hard for the opposition to read Arsenal’s play. Aubameyang was also seen raiding from the left flank and the former Borussia Dortmund striker’s pace allowed him to surge up and down with ease.

Both the strikers are excellent in their link-up and build-up play. Arsenal’s ping-pong one-touch football seemed to work in the final third. Lacazette and Aubameyang provided them with the devastating cutting edge in the final third.

Both are capable of popping up with goals on their own and given the right supply, the pair could become a household name in the league this season. Although this means dropping the likes of Mkhitaryan, it’s a move Unai Emery must take in order for the collective good of the team.
