Arsenal reviving interest in this highly creative 23-year-old talent would help fill Aaron Ramsey’s void

Why Arsenal should sign Nahitan Nandez to replace Aaron Ramsey

According to Daily Star, Arsenal were interested in signing Nahitan Nandez during the summer transfer window from Argentine club Boca Juniors. Nandez was identified as a potential replacement for the departed Aaron Ramsey.

However, Arsenal could not sign him since Emery was busy bolstering his squad’s attacking and defensive departments, leaving the midfield for the future transfer windows. With the winter window approaching, let’s have a look at whether or not Arsenal should make a bid for Nandez.

Nandez recently joined Seria A club Cagliari Calcio. He has been outstanding for the Italian club with his creativity in the midfield and has set up team-mates twice in seven league appearances so far. He is just 23 but has already established himself as a first-team player.

During his two-year tenure at Boca Juniors, he made 36 appearances and scored six goals. Meanwhile, he found the back of the net just eight times for his first club, Penarol, in the 75 appearances he made during his three years’ stay.

Arsenal must sign a creative midfielder since Mesut Ozil’s future remains uncertain at the London club. Ozil is their only creative midfielder and he has featured in just one league game this season, with Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos starting ahead of him in the midfield.

The Gunners have three defensive midfielders in Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and club captain Granit Xhaka. Even though Arsenal have managed to found the back of the net in each of the eight league games so far, the midfield contribution in those goals looks minimal.

Arsenal have scored 13 goals in that period and the midfielders have supplied four assists and scored once in those matches.

Uruguay midfielder Nandez has played with Torreira at the international level and their past would be an advantage to the team’s chemistry. Even though Arsenal are not playing in the Champions League this season, they have shown promising signs of finishing in the top-four.

Playing European football is something every footballer dreams off and Arsenal’s current situation may lure the 23-year-old from Italy to England, despite joining them only in the summer transfer window.

He would be Arsenal’s long-time replacement for Ramsey, thereby lifting Arsenal’s poor midfield to a different level.
