Arsenal opinion: Why Arsenal should reignite a move for Keylor Navas

While their front-line has been impeccably brilliant this term, netting 73 goals, Arsenal have also conceded 51 goals. Barring Manchester United and West Ham United, no other top-ten side has conceded more.

It shows why their back-line needs overhauling and this summer will prove to be a massive window in Unai Emery’s tenure at the club.

The former PSG boss has done exceptionally well at the club but has a lot of room for improvement and that can only be done with new signings. With Petr Cech retiring, Arsenal need a back-up goalkeeper.

Bernd Leno has proven to be a very astute option between the sticks, but there is only so much the German can do. He needs rest and that will come only if Arsenal add the right man to help out. Emiliano Martinez has done well on loan at Reading but he isn’t a long-term option.

Sure, the Argentine is only 26 years old but in comparison, he’s barely managed to make a dent at Arsenal, with just 14 appearances to his name. One of that has come this season, with Martinez spending most of his time at the Emirates warming the bench.

It’s why Arsenal really need to look to reignite a move for Keylor Navas. English News outlet Football.London has reported that the 32-year-old has been told that he is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.

It seems that the three-time Champions League winning goalkeeper is free to move onto his next challenge. Arsenal have to make sure that he picks them, otherwise, the Gunners would be in big trouble. They need a reliable back-up and Navas has the experience and ingenuity to give Leno a run for the first-team spot.

That’s what will help the German improve and together, the two goalkeepers can solidify Arsenal’s back-line. But the Costa Rican cannot be the only addition at the club.

The club has high hopes and with them in the Europa League final, it allows them a way into the Champions League. But that is only if they beat Chelsea and if Arsenal do that, then someone like Keylor Navas would be very useful given the fact that he’s won the Champions League three times.

Conclusion

Keylor Navas is a world-class goalkeeper and a very underrated one. Given the struggles that Real Madrid have had this season, the Costa Rican may just be one of the few players to come out of that unscathed.

For Arsenal, his experience and ability on the ball will help the club move on from the brilliant Petr Cech.
