Why Arsenal should beat Chelsea to sign James Rodriguez
According to The Sun, Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, who is continuing to face a lack of playing time.
Rodriguez, 28, completed his two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich and returned to the Bernabeu. Unfortunately, the form of other players and a busy summer transfer window – which saw the Spanish giants rope in a number of new stars – has made things difficult for the Colombian.
Due to an overload in the squad, club president Florentino Perez has contacted the player’s agent, as claimed by El Desmarque (h/t The Sun).
With both English clubs vying for his signature, it will be interesting to see how things play out in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite playing nine times this season, Zidane seems to be unconvinced by the Colombian’s performances. In fact, the manager often prefers playing Isco ahead of him.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in need of an attacking midfielder to step up their creativity. The Gunners have Mesut Ozil while only Mason Mount is available at Frank Lampard’s disposal.
Ozil has been dropped to the bench for most of the games and his displays have been far from convincing for a very long time.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have had to depend only on Mount to construct their game, which is asking a lot of from the youngster.
That said, Arsenal should leave no stone unturned in beating Chelsea to sign the talented playmaker. Rodriguez seems to have lost his track at Real Madrid but his qualities, backed by regular playing time, can put him back on the path to greatness.
Unai Emery needs a creative genius to support the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette up front and to that end, Rodriguez would be a viable option.
Rodriguez can also offer a lot more and his arrival and would complete a star-studded line-up along with Aubameyang and Lacazette. The Colombian has the qualities to bolster any attacking side and is a clinical finisher too.
