Why Arsenal must go all out for Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Junior

According to Spanish publication El Desmarque (h/t Daily Star), Arsenal are keen on signing  Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Junior.

The Premier League side joins a host of other clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers, all of whom are interested in landing the Brazilian winger, the report added.

Despite being loaded with talent, Vinicius has failed to reach his potential ever since he made a switch from Brazilian side Flamengo to Real Madrid in the summer of 2018.

The 19-year old is going through one of the most testing periods in his career right now, with manager Zinedine Zidane opting to use him from the bench rather than a regular.

It has been a disastrous campaign for the teenager, having managed to find the back of the net just twice from an overall 14 appearances in all competitions.

After plying his trade with Madrid’s second team – Real Madrid Castilla – Vinicius broke into the first-team set up last year, scoring 3 goals and assisting 12 times in 31 games.

However, his season was cut short by a ruptured knee ligament injury he sustained earlier in March this year, thus keeping him on the fringes till May.

Also, with the arrival of star player Eden Hazard from Chelsea last summer, Vinicius has seen himself warming the benches most of the season.

Barely getting any time to fulfil his vast potential, the young winger has been left out in the cold, attracting interests from a variety of European clubs including Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are going through one of their worst periods in recent times.  

For Arsenal, skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has alone done the bulk of the goalscoring work so far. Big-money summer signing Nicolas Pepe, meanwhile, has found life difficult at the new club since moving from Lille last summer.

The French winger has managed to hit the target just twice, even after making 15 appearances in the league.

The Gunners’ inability to score goals this season has raised serious concerns regarding the team’s attack and it is not a surprise that Arsenal are interested in Vinicius.

Also, Arsenal’s dearth in quality left-wingers has seen them deploying their in-form strikers Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli across the left flank to carry out the goalscoring responsibilities.

Predominantly a left-winger, Vinicius’s pace, trickery, and exceptional dribbling skills could be of great use to Arsenal, whose attack at the moment looks blunt.

Verdict

Except for a few youngsters, Arsenal do not have any established top-class wingers in their ranks and Vinicius would be a great catch. Hence, Arsenal should go all out for the young and talented Brazilian.
