According to Sport Witness (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Leeds United are lining up a move for Swansea City striker Andre Ayew.
Ayew, 30, began his career with Olympique Marseille before going on loan spells to different teams. He then stayed permanently with the French outfit for 5 years and in all made 209 appearances for them.
He moved to Swansea City in 2015 and has featured for West Ham United and Fenerbahce in the meantime before returning to the Liberty Stadium last summer. Since then, he has been an integral member of Steve Cooper’s squad.
The left-winger has scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists in the 20 Championship games he has played so far, helping the team stay in 10th place in the standings. He also has some experience playing in the Premier League previously with the Swans.
Since his return to the team last summer, Ayew has been impressive and is currently their top-scorer and top assist-provider. Though he did not have good a successful spell at West ham and Fenerbahce, Ayew has proven to make a difference for Copper’s side this season.
On the other hand, Leeds United are 3 points behind table leaders West Bromwich Albion after a debacle last weekend against Cardiff City, where the Whites blew a three-goal lead and the match ended in a 3-3 draw.
Bielsa’s side had the opportunity to leap to the top of the table with the help of goal difference but they still have a long way to go in the season.
However, it would be good if the Argentine addresses the lack of options in their attacking ranks. The manager has just two options in Jack Harrison and Jack Clarke and both of them are very young.
Though Harrison has been impressive this season with 4 goals and 5 assists to his name, Clarke has not made it beyond the bench more than once in the league matches. At 19, he cannot be expected to do much and therefore, Andre Ayew would be the best option for the second half of the season.
The Ghanaian has been better this season and has already scored (7) more than what he scored in the whole of last campaign in the Super Lig. He has regained his goalscoring touch and has been phenomenal for the Swans.
He would be a game-changer at Leeds and might even get a chance to start quite often, as he has ample experience under his belt. He is reliable and would definitely add much quality to Leeds’ attack.
At 30, Ayew is showing no signs of slowing down and he still has some years left to prove his worth in the Championship. Therefore, Leeds must not hesitate to buy him in January and they must act quickly to secure his services.
