Why Adrien Rabiot would be a good midfield addition for Arsenal

Why Adrien Rabiot Would Be A Perfect Addition To The Arsenal Midfield

As per a report from Calciomercato, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot is not particularly keen on continuing with the club beyond the end of this season.

The report has also stated that Arsenal are one of the clubs harbouring an interest in him. With the summer transfer window coming up, it will be a priority for Arsene Wenger to strengthen his options in the midfield area. With that in mind, it might be a good move for the Gunners reignite their desire to sign him.

According to Daily Star, Arsenal were quite eager to sign him last summer but the move did not materialise and the player chose to stay back with PSG instead. However, things are different now.

Although the 22-year-old is a defensive midfielder by trade, he has been utilised mainly as a central midfielder by Unai Emery this season. The report from Calciomercato has claimed that Rabiot is not too pleased with the role he has been playing.

With his contract set to expire in 2019, it could be a wise move for Arsenal to capitalise on this situation and pursue a deal for Rabiot. The midfielder is one of those rare players who are the ideal blend of physicality and technical ability.

Adrien Rabiot

Standing at a little over 6-feet in height, he is not an easy player to get past and he can hold on to the ball quite well. In addition to his impressive physicality, Rabiot is also an excellent passer of the ball. He is highly accurate and he never shies away from making forward passes which eventually contribute to the attack.

He has contributed 5 goals and 7 assists this season and those are brilliant numbers for a naturally defensive midfielder. Arsenal are in dire need of a player like that.

The Gunners lack balance in the midfield and Rabiot could certainly help them in that aspect. He is comfortable in fulfilling his defensive duties but at the same time, he can also fuel offensive plays when needed.

With Arsenal’s midfield forces looking weak, it would be important for the club to sign a new midfielder. Since Wenger has been using a 4-2-3-1 formation more often, Rabiot could go on to become an excellent partner for Granit Xhaka. The only stumbling block for Arsenal, however, could be the competition for his signature.
