Who’s This Prolific Turkish Striker Being Targeted By Crystal Palace And Newcastle United? Everything You Need To Know

Cenk Tosun

Scout Report – Cenk Tosun

After Crystal Palace failed to secure a move to land Cenk Tosun in the summer, the club are believed to be reviving their interest in the Besiktas striker, with added competition from Newcastle United.

The 26-year old was a subject of strong interest from the Eagles in the summer transfer window but now Rafa Benitez is also interested in securing Tosun’s services. Palace are teetering on the brink of relegation, and adding a player like Tosun would certainly benefit them. Having said that, the Magpies are having a good season so far, which might make it tough for Palace to tempt the striker in January.

Let’s take a look at Cenk Tosun’s profile.

History

Born in 1991 in Wetzlar, Germany, Tosun embarked on his footballing career by joining Eintracht Frankfurt’s academy in 1997, at the tender age of 6. Even as a kid, Tosun boasted of a prolific goal-scoring record with the youth sides. In 2011, he decided to move to Turkish club Gaziantepspor where he continued to impress. That attracted Besiktas, and the Turkish giants snapped Tosun up in the summer of 2014.

The 26-year old scored on his debut for the club, and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Although he is eligible to play for both Germany and Turkey, Tosun switched his allegiance to Turkey in 2012, and he made his senior debut in October 2013.

Playing Style

A strong finisher, Cenk Tosun is widely regarded as a centre-forward with great all-round abilities. He possesses stunning aerial skills while being speedy and accurate on the ground. The striker is adept at controlling the ball, and his trickery often makes way for entertaining football.

Tosun’s finishing is extremely clinical and he is also an intelligent operator in the final third. Besides scoring goals, Tosun is quite supportive in his team’s attacking ventures. Often, he opens up spaces for his teammates which classifies him as a true team player.

Tosun’s Future

With both Newcastle and Palace interested, Tosun looks increasingly likely to make a switch to the Premier League. While Palace are looking more solid under new manager Roy Hodgson, the fact still remains that they have a lot of catching up to do, while also risking relegation. Thus, it makes more sense for Tosun to join Newcastle instead.

The club have been a part of the Premier League’s top-10 for weeks now, and under Rafa Benitez’s watchful eye, the Magpies do look like a well-organised club.
