Who’s This £20m Rated Young Welshman On Liverpool And Tottenham’s Radar? Everything You Need To Know

David Brooks

Scout Report – David Brooks

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in landing £20m rated David Brooks from Sheffield United. The midfielder has been on an impressive run of form the Championship outfit and recently earned his maiden cap for Wales. Klopp and Pochettino are both vying for his signature after a series of stunning performances from Brooks.

However, the player will not come cheap. Brooks signed a new four-year deal only last month and is tied down to the Bramall Lane side for the foreseeable future. That said, either club could tempt Sheffield with a handsome amount for them agree to a deal.

History

Born in 1997 in Warrington, England, Brooks initially joined the Manchester City academy at the tender age of 7, following which he switched to the Sheffield United academy in 2014. Within a year, he signed professionally with the club. He was loaned out to Halifax Town last year but ever since he returned to Sheffield, he has been in splendid form for the side. In fact, in a game against Steel City Derby in September, Brooks also picked up a Man of The Match award.

Although he is eligible to play for both Wales and England, Brooks chose to represent the former on the international level. He was prolific for the U21 side and was recently called up to the Wales senior squad. He made his debut earlier in November.

Playing Style

A naturally attack-oriented midfielder, Brooks is very strong at dribbling and spotting key passes. His accuracy remains unmatched and the player is very creative when it comes to orchestrating attacks. The young Welshman is adept at taking set-pieces while having a penchant for playing short passes too.

The player is a bit weak when it comes to aerial challenges but a good thing about him is that he does not dive into tackles. Brooks does get fouled often but these are issues which can be ironed out at a later stage of his career.

Brooks’ Future

With clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham interested in him, Brooks should most certainly consider making a move if the deal seems attractive enough to him. He is very young and the opportunity to play for big Premier League sides will seem enticing enough.

However, if it were to come to a choice between the two clubs, Brooks is likely to be better off with Tottenham. Granted, Tottenham have an array of attacking midfielders at this point but his chances of breaking into the senior team will be a lot better if he were to join Pochettino’s squad.
