Who Is This Fench Attacker That Tottenham Are After? Everything You Need To Know

Tottenham fans couldn’t believe their eyes when their team got hammered by Newcastle 5-1 on the final day of the season, resulted in them finishing below their arch rivals Arsenal. The disaster at Newcastle rounded off an end of season collapse which saw Spurs winning none of their last four matches. Nevertheless, Mauricio Pochettino has made considerable progress since moving to Tottenham from Southampton in 2014. He has a young and energetic squad, with quality players willing to work hard. The two main reasons why Tottenham slipped out of the title race was one they had too many draws and will need to finish teams off if they are going to be ambitious about the Premier League and second the suspension of Dele Alli and Dembele from the final few games.

Pochettino has been on the look for players who can add quality to his team and have already brought striker Vincent Janssen and defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama, the Argentine has been successful in plugging a few gaps. Although he still needs more reinforcements, if he is ever going to dream of competing against the likes of Chelsea and the two Manchester Clubs. According to The Guardian, Mauricio Pochettino is close to signing Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

Nkoudou, 21, joined Marseille from Ligue 1 rivals Nantes last summer, and in 28 appearances had five goals and three assists to his name. He is also a French under21 international, having made 6 appearances.  Nkoudou was born in Versailles and began his career at Paris Saint-Germain before joining Nantes in 2013. He has already been scouted by a number of Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United, however it is believed that he will be arriving in London within the next 48 hours to complete his medical.

With Dimitri Payet moving to West Ham United, Nkoudou enjoyed a fair amount of time on the left-wing. He is a pacey winger who loves to drive at defenders and glide past them. He has an excellent dribbling ability, which is crucial during counter attacks along with pace. He is a two-footed player, something which will definitely trouble the defenders in England, making it impossible to judge whether he will run down the line or cut inside and take a shot himself. He is also lethal shooting from a distance, a very crucial option when up against teams, who are willing to sit back.

He is still 21 years of age, hence is still very inexperienced and raw, something Pochettino will have to work hard on to extract his full potential. He is also guilty of losing the ball a number of times due to his poor first touch.

Nkoudou is a versatile midfielder, who provides many options to Pochettino up front. His pace and energy are perfect for the high pressing style Tottenham played with last season. He is still young, therefore Pochettino can mould him into a player perfectly in line with Tottenham’s philosophy.
