According to Spanish newspaper Sport.ES, Dutch club PSV Eindhoven’s winger Steven Bergwijn is being closely followed by two Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United. Some of the European clubs, namely Barcelona and AC Milan, are also interested in swooping in for the player.
The 21-year-old’s release clause is just €20m, which is quite low given the quality of the player and the hike of the modern-day football transfer market. Bergwijn has taken the Eredivisie by storm, performing well for his club on a regular basis.
Having such a low release clause enables big clubs to monitor and get the player across the line relatively easily.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Dutchman:
Bergwijn started his youth career playing for Ajax up until 2011, before leaving due to conflicts with one of the youth trainers in the club. PSV immediately signed the player and he made his debut in the second division for Jong PSV against Achilles ’29 in a 2-0 home win.
He made the equation clear with Ajax by scoring against them to help PSV clinch the 2017/18 Eredivisie title. Since last season, he has been a star in the making and his performances do indicate that he is getting close to Europe’s best.
Attribute-wise, the 21-year-old can dribble past people in a flash, take long shots to test the goalkeeper, slide in through balls for the runners towards and also play key roles in team’s attacking build-up.
He often cuts inside and occupies that half-space between the centre-back and a full-back, making him one of the hardest players to mark. He is constantly on the move in the wake of making things happen for the team.
Bergwijn has already scored four goals and supplied four assists in eight league appearances this season, with a key pass rate of 1.9 and dribble rate of an astonishing 3.3. (Whoscored.com)
Perusing the player’s attributes and stats, it is easy to understand why some of the big clubs in Europe are targeting him. With a release clause as low as €20m, it is also not hard to predict that one of them could be in the business to snap the player.
