The hunt for the next big striker for Arsenal is on and instead of thinking of signing a known player, the Gunners, similar to what Arsene Wenger has been doing since his tenure at the club, has set his sights on another youngster joining the ranks of the Premier League side.
Anthony Koura, who plays for Ligue 2 side Nimes Olympique is the player on the radar for the side and the 22-year-old certainly isn’t the youngest player out there in the world but Wenger might be expecting a late bloomer for the side looking to get another striker to help out Olivier Giroud in the scoring department.
Ligue 2 to the Premier League
Although he is an unknown name for many, Koura is a bit of a hot property in France and many top clubs are out looking for his signature. The France U19 international has scored six goals in 15 appearances for the Ligue 2 club and according to reports, a deal with Arsenal could actually take place rather quickly.
Koura was already watched by many Premier League sides such as Newcastle and Sunderland last year and this just shows that some others are willing to take a punt on the striker but can he really cut it in the Premier League?
The funny thing is that Koura actually has had a bit of an experience of playing for a Premier League side. When he was playing for Le Mans, before joining Nimes, Koura did play for Newcastle in a preseason friendly and even scored a couple of goals but it was not enough to sign him up.
Newcastle though have stayed in touch and are still looking to get the striker, who could join the club should they have to sell a few players next year. The 22-year-old can play out wide or as a central striker as is the case with most of the attackers in this day and age of football.
He might look a decent buy considering the fact that he will be out of contract at the end of the season and certainly will sign for a club that is larger than the one he plays for currently. According to reports, he was supposed to sign for Arsenal in January but the deal was pulled off as Arsenal could now sign him for free at the end of the season.
He probably would not play a lot of games up front but would give them an option next season. This does not mean that the end for Olivier Giroud is here but more than Arsenal have someone they can mould and hopefully become the next big thing for the Gunners in the coming years.
