Scout Report – Timo Werner

Jurgen Klopp has been a busy man recently as he is trying hard to sign some of the star European players to try and help Liverpool stand as a European giant after a long time. He has been looking to sign some star players this summer and one player extensively linked with a move to Anfield is RB Leipzig’s, Timo Werner.

According to Independent, Liverpool are looking to sign the up and coming youngster to add to their depth for the Champions League next season. His current club RB Leipzig will not let him leave on the cheap and Klopp will have to spend big for his signature but who is Werner and what will he add to Liverpool? Here is a peek into his scout report.

History

Born and brought up in Stuttgart Germany, the 21-year old started his youth career with VFB Stuttgart and made his debut for the senior side at the age of 17. He cemented a place in the first team and made a huge impact for three long seasons before moving to RB Leipzig before the start of the recent season.

He has also represented the German national team at every junior level and also got his first senior cap earlier this year. He is one of the most exciting youngsters on display in Europe at the moment and could be a superb addition to Liverpool’s squad.

Style of Play / Strengths & Weaknesses

The German youngster is an excellent dribbler who loves to have the ball at his feet. At just 21, he is still a liability in the air. When holding on to the ball, he has enough technical ability to cover his frailties.

He has played as a lone striker for Leipzig all season but has also shown that he is capable of playing on the wings with decent effect. His pace and ability to shift gears with ease allows him to get past players easily. He is a decent finisher and can make himself a nuisance in the final third and is expected to be a backup to the first team stars at Anfield next season.

He also needs to work on his defensive duties but is a player with huge potential and is someone Klopp will not want to miss out on this summer.

What the future holds

Having just made his national debut under Joachim Low, Werner is destined for greatness in the future. He needs regular game time to prove himself at the highest level and to do that he needs to stay back with Leipzig. But an offer from Liverpool and their new endeavor may be too good to turn down and if he can prove himself, Klopp is not one to keep him out of the first team.

Surely his addition will make Liverpool’s attack all the more exciting.
