Who is this 19-year-old speedster on Barcelona’s radar? The next big full-back at Camp Nou?

Who is Barcelona target Moussa Wague? The next big full-back at Camp Nou?

Barcelona are reportedly targeting KAS Eupen’s Senegalese full-back Moussa Wague and are willing to initiate discussions with the Belgian club to sign the player this summer. The 19-year-old defender was impressive in the recently concluded World Cup to attract the attention of the Spanish giants.

Wague plays in the Belgian league, however, he announced his arrival in world football by performing very well in Russia. He was one of the bright stars for a Senegal team who bowed out of the group stages on the basis of more yellow cards.

Here’s everything you need to know about the player and why he can be a vital cog in the Barcelona machine in the upcoming seasons:

Moussa Wague

Scout Report – Moussa Wague

Age – 19

Main Position – Full-back (Predominantly Right-sided)

Wague is a tenacious full-back who is a nice blend of defensive solidity and attacking threat to the opposition. At the World Cup, he impressed everyone with a great turn of pace down the right flank to make overlapping runs, which caused a lot of trouble to the defenders.

Only Sadio Mane and M’Baye Niang fabricated more chances for Senegal than Wague in the World Cup; speaks volumes, doesn’t it?

The 19-year-old is quite a diligent defender, who is not afraid of making tackles and interceptions, at an average of 1 and 1.3 respectively, to stop an opposition attack. He is also a very astute full-back in one-on-one situations, which makes him a real talent.

Moussa Wague

Wague helped his nation to stop the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Co. while playing against Poland. The only thing he needs to learn is to not get caught higher up the pitch and not give room for wingers to cross. He had that experience against Japan, from which he is certain to learn a lot and improve in his next games.

Barcelona need a right-back as Nelson Semedo and Aleix Vidal haven’t set the world alight to cement that spot. If Ernesto Valverde is looking for an ambitious full-back, Wague fits in the bill perfectly.

For the player as well, it will be a massive opportunity to come to one of the biggest clubs in world football and showcase his talent. Hence, it will be a right move for both parties and a big upgrade for the player.
