According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on German prodigy Jann-Fiete Arp, who has been dubbed as the German Harry Kane.

A youth product of Hamburger SV, the 18-year-old has represented Germany at the U16 and U17 levels, scoring 18 goals from 19 appearances in the latter.

As the Premier League clubs come sniffing around like sharks, let us get a deeper insight into one of the hottest young talents in German football – Hamburger’s Jann-Fiete Arp.

Born in Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, a district in the northeast of Hamburg, Germany, Arp joined the Hamburger SV academy in 2010 at the age of 10.

He caught the eyes with his wonderful displays at the youth and reserve level, and quickly rose through the ranks. Arp made his senior Bundesliga debut in the 2017-18 season, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to play in the German top-flight.

Arp scored his first goal for Hamburger SV against Hertha BSC last October and became the first 2000s born player to score a goal in the Bundesliga.

The 18-year-old was a part of the German team that participated at the 2017 UEFA U17 Championship held in Croatia and scored 7 goals in the competition. Arp also scored five at the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup held in India.

Arp netted twice for Hamburger in the Bundesliga last season but his efforts weren’t enough to save the club from relegation.

Style of Play

Standing at 6ft 2in with a towering and well-built frame, Jann-Fiete Arp is known for his physicality and hold-up play as a centre-forward. He is already quite strong in the air and is expected to improve in that aspect of his game in the years to come.

Arp uses his strength to shield the ball from the defenders and shrug off challenges, bringing the ball down with a good first touch and holding it up for the others to get into the game. His strength, hold-up play and aerial ability can make him an effective target man in the days to come.

However, he is not only about strength. Arp knows how to combine the different aspects of his game, showing that his decision-making belies his tender years. The German is also quite sharp with his movement inside the box and is a clinical finisher in front of the goal.

Arp is predominantly a right-footed player but he can finish with both feet. The youngster has also shown the ability to keep his composure in tight situations. He doesn’t hurry his finishing when the opposition tries to close him down and has the ability to find the net with precise chips and lobbed finishes too.

Arp has already shown strong signs of excellence at the youth level but he has struggled to cope with the standards of the Bundesliga. He still needs to work on his game to make an impression at the senior level in any top league of Europe.
