Who Is The New £6m West Ham Signing? Everything You Need To Know

There were concerns about the left-back slot for West Ham United fans this season but Slaven Bilic seems to be completing the signing of a youngster that not many would have heard about. Arthur Masuaku is the player in question and the 22-year-old has been one of the star players in Greek football.

The Olympiakos left-back has officially moved to West Ham United for a reported £6m, which is a bargain in this day and age of transfers.

“I was speaking with my agent about some opportunities, but when he told me about West Ham and also the coach, I didn’t think twice,” Masuaku told the West Ham website.

“For me, the Premier League is the biggest league in the world. When I was 18, my target was to come here, so now I am here, I have to prove myself to the fans and to the team.”

The France U18 and U19 international has not played for the senior national side yet but just who is he and why are West Ham bringing him to the Premier League?

A player who can be used extremely well by Bilic

Slaven Bilic is known for finding rare gems in the market, from Angelo Ogbonna actually doing well in defence to Enner Valencia and Michail Antonio starring for the side in their respective roles, no one can question Bilic at all for his signings and this could be another one who could star for the Premier League side this season.

West Ham might have to shift Aaron Cresswell to the role of a central defender this season and that could be a problem for them as Masuaku can play in that role, though he is capable of playing as a left winger as well, which would come in handy for West Ham United later on.

It could be that Bilic is looking to provide cover for his other defenders as well since the club would be playing in the Europa League this season and that means an extra number of games which the club might have trouble dealing with.

Masuaku made his name playing for Olympiakos but his training and youth career was with Valenciennes in the French league. The 22-year-old signed for Olympiakos in 2014 and has been a regular for the Greek club ever since.

The French player has made 74 appearances for the club so far and has even scored twice for them. He isn’t known for his attacking ability though and is more of a player who can defend well first and foremost. He might not be the toughest defender either as playing in the Premier League will be a different experience for the Olympiakos star but Arthur Masuaku could turn out to be a great signing for Slaven Bilic as he has always been pretty good with his signings for the club and no one should doubt his decision-making.
