Aaron Nemane – Scout Report
Having not improved to the extent they thought they would over the summer, Rangers have secured a loan deal for Manchester City winger Aaron Nemane.
Despite the busy summer of transfer action, the 19-year-old becomes the club’s first signing overseen by Mark Allen who arrived at the club in July as Director of Football. The fact Nemane is his first signing is no surprise however, given that he spent seven years as Youth Academy Director at Man City.
Plenty of fans had believed the Ibrox club would sign Jamie Walker of Hearts, though this deal seems to have put paid to that. Here’s what we know about him so far:
History
Having risen through the now well respected City academy, winger Nemane broke into the under-23 team last season and went on to make 13 league appearances, with 11 of them being starts. He managed just the one goal but did impress to such an extent that Rangers see him as the man to help them take the next step now.
Style Of Play
Quick and agile, Nemane is a proper old-fashioned winger which is something Caixinha seems to favour. The signing of Daniel Candeias is something which appears to back this up, especially since his overall level of ability does not seem to be significantly higher than that of his predecessor Martyn Waghorn.
Nemane is right-footed and can play down that side, though he is also comfortable on the left, cutting in when the chance arises. This puts him in pole position for a start on the left of Rangers’ 4-3-3 formation in the coming few games. Plenty of assists should be made from his side and so even if the goals don’t come, his use as a supply line should prove enough.
His Future
Like many a young player out there right now, Nemane will find it very difficult to get into the Manchester City first team over the next year or so and so this loan stint should be terrific for him.
Even UEFA under-19 Champions League games do not offer the same level of experience and so he has stagnated slightly in his development, something which is about to change completely. Whether he stays at Rangers this time next season or looks for another gig in England is open to question.
Two things look certain though; he will be a much, much better player in a year’s time from this experience and he will not be in the Man City first XI next season. Somewhere in between is likely.
