What’s Next for Luke Shaw as he Starts his Road to Recovery?

Share

Manchester United’s return to the crème de la crème of European football competition didn’t go as planned. Not only did the record English champions suffer a 2-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven but the horrific injury of Luke Shaw overshadowed the game. The English left-back was probably playing his best football for the club since he signed from Southampton and had been one of the best players this season for Manchester United.

Luke Shaw injury

The 15th Minute tackle by PSV’s Hector Moreno was a little tough, but it wasn’t the worst tackle in the world. Unfortunately for Shaw, he suffered a double foot fracture and needed treatment for 10 minutes before he was carried off on a stretcher. The English fullback was in a better mood later on as he responded on his Twitter account to some positive messages from his former club and a few other professionals.

One thing is a certainty, after an injury hit season last time around for Shaw, a long layoff was the last thing he would have wanted, especially after such a bright start to the season. The PSV player has apologized to Shaw but the English defender faces a long time off the pitch and by all accounts his season is over.

Shaw isn’t the only player to have suffered a horrible injury which has taken the player out for a long time, everyone remembers the horror injury that Aaron Ramsey suffered at Stoke a few years ago and even Eduardo, the former Arsenal striker. It was feared that both players’ careers were over, but they recovered incredibly and are still playing in the top competition in football.

Aaron Ramsey injury

Luke Shaw has broken both his tibia and fibula, he could end up missing close to a year of football and that would be a great loss for him. Aaron Ramsey took 252 days to recover from his double leg break while Eduardo took 296 days to recover from his injury. Everton’s Bryan Oviedo suffered a similar injury a couple of seasons ago and took 218 days to recover.

Some of the big games that Shaw would probably miss if his time to recover crosses 300 days would include the FA Cup final which is on 21st May, 2016, 250 days from the day of his injury. While the Manchester United fullback would probably miss out on Euro 2016 which begins on 10th June, 2016. Everyone wishes that Shaw does have a quick recovery and hopefully Shaw will come back fitter and stronger and sooner than we expect.
