What Does It Mean To Chelsea If They Managed To Sign This £42m Rated La Liga Star This Summer

Andre Gomes 1

Few could have predicted Chelsea’s disastrous season last year, the defending champions were left scraping for a top half finish after string of defeats in the first half of the campaign. As a result fan favourite Jose Mourinho was sacked mid way into the season and ex Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink was brought in to repair the damage as much as he could. Credit to him, he did improve Chelsea’s game substantially in the second and even managed to get the likes of Hazard and Fabregas firing by the end of the season. However the Blues decided to bring in current Italian manager Antonio Conte, a manager who has a reputation of being hard task master, in the hope that Chelsea could stop this downfall and return to the top.

The need to bring in new players is more than ever now, Conte must be clever in choosing who to buy and who to sell. However Considering the plethora of players already linked to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have been reasonably quiet in the transfer window so far. As soon as the EUROS finish, the Blues will have to move quick before other clubs come in and hijack their deals. One player who has been linked to Chelsea recently is Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes. He will not come cheap, if reports are to be believed the Spanish club wants something in the region of £42million. The 22-year-old Portugal international is a hugely talent player, who was linked to Chelsea even last season but nothing could work out at that time but this time with a new boss that might just change.

The central midfield area appears to be a priority for Chelsea this summer, as they have also been heavily linked to Ngolo Kante and Ranja Nainggolan, two midfielders who offer something completely different to Gomes. The Valencia player has caught the eye of many managers across Europe including Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, and although the asking price might seem high right now, there is no doubt that the midfielder has bright future ahead of him.

Gomes would be a quality addition to the squad as he is flexible in his game and has the capability of playing anywhere in the midfield, an option which would catch the attention of any manager in the world. His reading of the game is excellent, which allows him to play the deep midfielders role to perfection, as he is excellent at making interceptions and doesn’t shy away from making a tackle if needed. In Portugal’s first game, the Valencia player was superb defensively. Gomes is excellent at close control and has the ability to wriggle of tight spaces. One of his most impressive attribute is the fact that he has brilliant pass completion rate which is somewhat surprising given that he is always looking to play those defense splitting passes to his team mates. Conte knows that if he can get Gomes from Spain this summer, it would go a long way in solving many of Chelsea’s problems.
