What can you expect from Neymar, Coutinho, Jesus and Brazil in the World Cup: SWOT analysis

Share

The upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 is a highly-anticipated event across the world. Regardless of whether or not one’s country is a participant, all eyes will be glued to the TV screens once the colossal event unravels in Russia this year. As far as Brazil are concerned, they will be looking to enter this tournament in search of redemption.

Among all the South American countries competing in the World Cup since time immemorial, Brazil enjoys the lion’s share of the fans across the globe. From iconic names like Pele to modern-day greats like Neymar, the Samba boys never disappoint on the big stage.

In fact, the South American giants have won the World Cup on more occasions than any other side so far, having lifted the coveted trophy 5 times. Despite hosting the previous World Cup in 2014, Brazil were brutally thrashed by Germany in the infamous semi-final where they lost 7-1.

However, more than anything else, the Brazilians are known for their never-say-die attitude. This time, they have a sharper and a stronger team at hand and they are undoubtedly one of the favourites to win the competition.

The likes of Neymar, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus have been earning accolades for their performances at their respective clubs but when they come together, Brazil will roar the loudest.

Strengths

Brazil are lucky enough to boast of having some of the best superstars in modern football. Their attack comprises the likes of Jesus, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Neymar while players like Marcelo and Thiago Silva will hold the fort at the back.

As far as the midfield area is concerned, Brazil will rely on Douglas Costa, Paulinho, Fernandinho and a host of other midfield stars.

In such a situation, it is quite clear that Brazil have a well-rounded team and that will be their biggest strength going into the World Cup. Coutinho enjoys a fantastic relationship Paulinho on the field and duo will be vital to the country’s successes.

Weaknesses

To be honest, we are looking at a Brazilian squad that boasts of depth in the squad along with some of the biggest names in European football right now. Suffice to say, the only weakness Brazil must fear is their own state of mind.

They must not get complacent at any point. Their loss at the hands of current World Cup champions Germany was a prime example of how devastating complacency can get.

As long as they focus on maintaining a winning mentality and keep injuries to a minimum, Brazil will be a force to reckon with in the scintillating tournament.

Coach: Tite

Often renowned for his pragmatic approach to the modern game, Tite can be lethal. He must learn from his mistakes in the friendly against Germany in March and strive to put up a tough fight in the main event.

In the previous campaign, there was a lot of talk about Brazil’s lack of aggression in terms of attack and that is something Tite must change this year. On the whole, Tite is a trustworthy figure who is capable of conjuring some crafty tactics to beat the opposition but can he go the extra mile in this World Cup? It remains to be seen.

Key Player: Neymar

Fans across the world were eagerly awaiting Neymar’s influence in the World Cup last time but a terrible injury prevented him from doing so. Now, the tables have turned and Neymar is in brilliant form.

From being a part of a Barca team consisting of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to playing at Paris Saint-Germain, the attacker has been through several ups and downs in his club career.
However, this time, it is crucial for him to put in remarkable performances to rightfully establish himself as a poster boy for the new-age Samba boys.

Neymar

Verdict

Brazil have an incredibly strong team this year and most of their players have been quite solid for their respective clubs. It is important that they work together in a sustainable manner since Russia’s pitches can get unforgiving at times.

Like any other year, the attackers will be key to the team’s good fortunes and Tite must ensure his star performers remain healthy and consistent throughout the tournament.

From what we have seen here, Brazil have a great chance of progressing to the final stages.

Prediction: Progress to the semi-final
