“What a game”, “We’re never boring”: Some Wolves fans ecstatic after 4-3 win vs Leicester City + Match Report

Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-3 Leicester City: Wolves back on track after Diogo Jota hattrick in an incredible game

It touted as the battle of the heaviest middleweights in the Premier League when Wolverhampton Wanderers faced Leicester City and that’s exactly what it was. Two mid-table sides chasing after one and another, in the race to finish in the lone Europa League spot. While Wolves entered the game in 11th place, Leicester City, on the other hand, was in 8th, with a mere two points separating the two teams.

It was an extraordinary start to the game and within three minutes, the game had already been introduced to the yellow card, Kasper Schmeichel had to make a rather incredible save before Diego Jota poked it home. Things soon got worse for Leicester City and they conceded the second goal, less than ten minutes later, after a splendid corner from Joao Moutinho.

However, as the game ran on both sides grew into in, Leicester City more so than Wolves before the half time whistle. And as they say, it was the tale of two halves. If Nuno Espirito Santo’s men made the most of the opening minutes of the first half, then Claude Puel’s half-time talk worked wonders on the Foxes in the second half. The former Premier League champions managed to somehow pull not one but two goals out of the bag, within a mere six minutes of the restart.

This included a great run from Demarai Gray preceding Leicester’s opening goal and what at the time looked like Harvey Barnes’ debut goal on his first Premier League start, since returning from loan. It has since been called as an own goal off Wolves’ centre-back Conor Coady, and the game got much more interesting from there.

Both sides had a lot to fight for and both sides needed a win, as the Wolves have been inconsistent of late having lost three out of their last five Premier League games. On the other hand, Leicester City and manager Claude Puel haven’t had the best of times in recent months, with fans booing him and calling the Foxes boring.

But this game as anything but boring with Wes Morgan equalising in the 87th minute before Diogo Jota slotted home his third goal of the day in the 94th minute of extra time. For fans that prefer the tactical side of the game, this wasn’t one to watch but on the basis of pure entertainment, it was simply an incredible game.

The late minute goal and the win, allows Wolves to leap over Everton, West Ham and Leicester City themselves into 8th place for now. The Toffees play Southampton later on, while West Ham takes on Bournemouth, both being must-win games in the race for a Europa League spot.

Here’s what some happy Wolves fans had to say about the result:
