West Ham’s midfield would become one of the league’s best if they sign this £15m Newcastle star this summer

West Ham opinion: The Hammers should go all out for Isaac Hayden

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has made no secret of his desire to leave Newcastle United this summer.

The 24-year-old tried to force a transfer last August but Rafael Benitez refused to sell the midfielder because there was not enough time left in the summer transfer window to sign a replacement.

And after the end of the 2018/19 campaign was done, Hayden made it clear he wants to leave Newcastle in order to be closer to his family.

According to Football.London, West Ham are interested in signing Hayden from Newcastle. The Hammers were keen to sign Andre Gomes from Barcelona but that going out of their hands, they must land Hayden.

West Ham have been very busy in the summer transfer window, with Manuel Pellegrini already wrapping up three deals, with the latest being Spanish playmaker Pablo Fornals.

Fornals, having signed from Villarreal, is highly-rated across Europe and will provide extra creativity and dynamism to Pellegrini’s attack next season.

However, if there’s one issue that still remains in the Hammers’ midfield, it is that they lack depth. Declan Rice had an excellent 2018/19 campaign in which he nailed down a regular place in Pellegrini’s side.

He was the only consistent performer in the middle of the park and was often partnered by the ageing Mark Noble due to a lack of options.

Pellegrini signed Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez last summer but they failed to prove their fitness, spending the majority of the last campaign on the sidelines.

West Ham have Pedro Obiang, but he is inconsistent and is decent as a squad player. Noble has performed well alongside Rice, but he has started slowing down, which should prompt Pellegrini to bring in a replacement for his skipper.

Hayden certainly could be that player West Ham are in dire need of. The 24-year-old may not be pretty on the eye but he was one of Newcastle’s star performers over the second half of last season.

A combative midfielder, he is someone who never hesitates to fly into challenges to stop opposition’s attack and works really hard throughout the game.

The ex-Arsenal man is a good passer, industrious, committed and is excellent while recovering possession. Hayden will be perfect for the Hammers, adding bite and steel to their midfield, while also potentially forming an excellent partnership with Rice.

Verdict

A player like Isaac Hayden would be perfect for West Ham, as at around £15m, he could prove to be yet another bargain for the club. Combine that with his age, experience and willingness to work hard, and it all binds together rather nicely for Pellegrini.
