The Premier League season may be over, but Manuel Pellegrini’s project at West Ham is far from complete. He joined just before the start of the last summer transfer window and made sure that the club made a few astute signings in the following window.
But injuries and various other issues have seen them struggle. They struggled recently with the club falling from seventh place to 10th place eventually and five points off seventh palace Wolverhampton Wanderers. That downfall started in January and that’s something the club failed to recover from.
But the Hammers’ season wasn’t all bad, with the club enjoying a few positives. Declan Rice’s rise has been exceptional, Felipe Anderson took to the English top-tier brilliantly, despite there being doubts at the start and their centre-back partnership has done well.
Both Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena have done relatively well, despite various injuries for the duo. That played a part in the club’s downfall, but their main issues have come in midfield.
Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere have had yet another injury prone season, playing just 16 games over the course of the season.
Pedro Obiang, on the other hand, has been comparatively fit but struggled to put his best foot forward. That forced Pellegrini’s hand and created a void for Declan Rice to flourish in.
However, his partner in Mark Noble is ageing and struggling to cope up with the pace of the Premier League, which is why the Express has reported West Ham are keen on a move for Dani Ceballos.
The young midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Real Madrid since his move from Real Betis, despite showing great potential. Now, with Zinedine Zidane looking to overhaul his team, it seems that the Express has revealed that Ceballos will be a part of the mass exodus.
For West Ham, it’s the perfect move given the 22-year old’s ability. Once considered to be Luka Modric’s long-term replacement, Ceballos is a number 8 more than a number 10.
An all-action midfielder he’s press resistance, which allows him to be always available to receive the ball and then push forward. Unlikely to be a goalscoring midfielder, the 22-year-old is confident and has the ability to control play brilliantly.
Not only that, his defensive contributions are top notch and as a former team-mate once said, he makes everything easier for the team. That’s a rare talent in this day and age, which is why the Hammers need to pounce whenever they get the chance.

Dani Ceballos is that world-class talent that West Ham need, with the potential to grow even further in the near future. But if the club is looking for a goalscoring midfielder, then he is not their man. But if they’re looking for someone who can do basically everything else, then look nowhere else.
